That may be true, but the Charismatic Renewal continues to be a vibrant force in the Church, albeit less so than in the 70s and 80s.
It's not my cup of tea, as it relies on too much emotionalism and "experience" of the Spirit, which can lead to superstition. That said, you know them by their fruits. Our parish's group involves a solid core of 50 people, who meet twice a week to pray and meditate over Scripture for two and three hours at a time; they've decided that the healing ministry should be subjugated to prayer, and there are no public healing manifestations. They also maintain a ministry to Catholics (or anybody who requests it) in the Mid-Cities in hospice care. These folks have been doing this for nearly 20 years, with no fanfare, little recognition, and no reward other than that given them by the Holy Spirit.
In all things, moderation, and always in obedience to the pastor and the bishop. From what I can see, most of the excesses have been wrung out of the Charismatic Renewal.
