The Pope's role - when he was an orthodox pope - was to be the chairman of the board only and not the whole board! The Pope does not have the power of an ecumenical council and has no authority to change the meaning of what Christianity is. The Pope does not inherit the throne of St. Peter just for showing up. Under Hermann's Latin logic if the Pope embraced reincarnation, that's ok-he has the power to do it. The Frankish Popes left orthodoxy and the Orthodox would love for them to come back--but it would be the Latins who need to come back into the Christianity of the Apostolic ecumenical councils.
