I don't care what the SSPX says.

You're not in union with Rome, and likely never will be.

All right, deacon. I'm not saying you have to check out the links right away. But I do take the above comments as a sign you haven't read anything additional about the matter. Since you do not want to learn the other side of things for even a second, I would like to suggest you not talk about SSPX anymore. The idea of you not caring about the SSPX yet identifying people who go to the true Mass only as supporters of SSPX (and therefore "schismatic") is annoying.

We already agreed to disagree about the Mass. Now, let's get back to civility for real and stop the indiscriminate, inappropriate branding of people. Whenever you can show everyone else that you know what a schism is and do a little more research on true Catholicism, then we can talk further about whatever it was you were concerned about.

why the need for "reconciliation"?

Because the Conciliar Church needs to reconcil itself to Catholicism.

Reverence means nothing if it's not rooted in the truth.

And truth means nothing when it is confused with heresy, error and blasphemy.

There is no requirement that a parish have a pastoral council. A pastor can have one or not as he chooses. Their function, if there is one, is advisory.

Maximilian, why don't they solve the priest shortage this way: get the older men who are interested in pursuing a vocation interested joining the priesthood. At least they should consider that as an option. Also, they really need to get rid of the age limit for those wanting to get into the seminary and rid the curriculum of modernism, too. . . 49 posted on 05/19/2003 11:42 AM PDT by huskyboy

That's not that bad of an idea. Mature Catholic men, retired, widowed, or with adult children now on their own, could be good candidates, assuming they are also orthodox and sound Catholics. Part of the problem has to do with the liberalism and modernism of the American clergy, another with seminary training. There is definitely a great deal of work that needs to be done in Catholic education. The Catholic colleges and universities need to be removed from liberal control. At the moment, in many cases, the students, as at secular U.S. colleges, are hostages held essentially by liberal intellectual terrorists. Catholic culture needs to be restored across the board - in parishes, colleges, seminaries, chanceries, religious orders, and at national bishops conferences.

I am aware of this condition. I just wanted to draw the parallel.

Personally, I don't like the idea of parishes being run by a deacon, nun or lay person.

I would hope in all those situations that there was an appointed Parochial Advisor-Priest.

Some of the business things can be taken care of by deacons, etc. But when it comes to the Sacraments -- we need our priests!

**They appoint an acting pastor who never shows up for anything.**

Which is so very sad. A church community needs someone to administer the Sacraments and celebrate Mass. Not showing up doesn't cut it!
