**Your April 28 letter to the pastor of St. Mark Parish canceling my lecture on "Optimism and Hope in the Church" left me perplexed and disappointed.**

Nice observation. "Ex-Priest Padovano Found With Road Around Neck, In Ocean."
Now there's a tabloid headline.

(Joe McCarthy was RIGHT, but Drank Too Much)

Maida's concerned about an obscure ex-priest, coming in for a day from New Jersey, yet is STILL silent on his own Michigan Catholic governor, who supports abortion openly. He also does nothing about an auxilliary bishop on his staff, Gumbleton, who openly advocates Sodomy.

Granted that he inherited Gumbleton when he came to Detroit, but if he had any sense he'd keep him chained up in the basement of the chancery. There's nothing stopping him from excommunicating the bloody heretic. He's got all the grounds and authority needed under Canon Law. Yet he keeps him.
