drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

As for graven images, you are a bigtme sinner if you have a dirvers license, any family photos, or a newspaper.

I don't kneel before them. I don't use them as a conduit to communicate with God.

Actually I prefer to just have Fun, Fun, Fun, till Jom Rob takes the Forum Away.

Well you P-Marlowe might think it is fun, fun, fun, till JimRob takes form away!

Have you given a thought of what an unpleasant place he was put in by handful!

Who can NOT discusse a on this forum in a civil manner.

Even heated manner at times and than gather composure.

No now this forum has become a blood sport!

Now this forum has become a libiltiy insteat of a excellent place for various voices to be heard.

Now this forum has gone beyond all decency which created an impasse.

If you thought about Jim Robinson you would have known he is in a catch 22

Should this Religious forum shut down those here would move to the Main forum and start cloging up that thread for which this FORUM was created.

Enmity and Contempt is NOT a good thing, it is not productive, it is destructive, it causes hurt and pain.

Most of ALL if is not of GOD!

If ONE appreciated and respected what JimRob had created for ALL of his religious freepers, not just a select few this conversation would not be going on today!

Exodus 20:4-5 (quote from the NASB '95):

___ "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God..." ___

This, you say, shows that we are not allowed to make statues. However, this is not what the text says in light of the entire Bible. The passage here can be interpreted to mean, "You can't make any statues; and don't you dare worship them" or simple, "Don't make any statues for the purpose of worshipping them."

The first interpretation is false because if we cannot make anything in the likeness of anything in Heaven or on earth, then:

we would not be allowed to draw pictures of anything on earth or in Heaven

we would not be allowed to take photos

we would not be allowed to make paintings

God would contradict Himself by commanding images/statues to be made

So you would disobey your own commandment by taking pictures, drawing stuff, or even putting up a cross or crucifix, because all of these things are something in the likeness of something on earth below!

There are lots of passages in the Bible in which God commands people to make statues/images for religious use:

One frome the very same book of Exodus (wherein we foud the prohibition against graven images used for actual worship of the image):

Exodus 25:18-19

"[Y]ou shall make two cherubim of gold, make them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub at one end and one cherub at the other end; you shall make the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat at its two ends."

Now, if this is not a divine command to make statues of, what is?

1 Timothy 2:1
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men,...

Paul is writing to Timothy, a living person on this earth. You will note Paul is not asking for prayer to any Saints. He is asking for prayer for all men.
==================================================================================
Concerning Mary, it is through Mary that we easily get to Christ. It is through Mary that the Incarnation exists at all.

You speak as if the way to Christ is through Mary. This is entirely extra-Scriptural. You have seemingly appointed Mary as the gatekeeper between man and the Lord. There is one gatekeeper and that is Jesus. John 10.

Do you actually believe Jesus gives priority to those who ask Mary to intercede for them over those those who pray directly to Him?

BTW, not to start a fight, but immersion baptism is a historical novelty.

Matthew 3:
[1] In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
[2] "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
[3] For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."
[4] Now John wore a garment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
[5] Then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan,
[6] and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

Do you imagine they got pretty wet while being baptized in the river?

Baptism means immersion.

baptizo
Thayer Definition:
1) to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk)
2) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one’s self, bathe
3) to overwhelm
Part of Speech: verb

Sprinkle is a whole different word:

rhantizo
hran-tid'-zo
From a derivative of rhaino (to sprinkle); to render besprinkled, that is, asperse (ceremonially or figuratively): - sprinkle.

Well, in the name of bi-partisan ecumenicism I offer the following thoughts:

"I Wish They All Could Be Southern Baptist Girls".

or, "I wish they all could be Pentecostal Girls".

How about "I wish they all could be Calv'ry Chapel Girls".

No, well then, "I wish they all could be Plymouth Brethren Girls".

Ok, why not "I wish they all could be Presbyterian Girls"

Too Reformed, huh? Well, why not:

"I wish they all could be Roman Catholic Girls".

Then again, since so much is happening over in Iraq:

"I wish they all could be Middle Eastern Girls" --------------

On the other hand, maybe you want to keep your mind on missionary work:

"PREACHIN' U.S.A."

"PREACHIN' SAFARI"

"SIDEWALK PREACHIN'" ---------------

Back to Iraq:

"HELP ME, RUMSFELD (GET HIM OUT OF IRAAAAAQ)!

I find it strange that - according to you - those who are in heaven should not follow the biblical urgings of Timothy.

Notice Timothy does not specifically limit his "urgings" to any single group or person. It is you who has added such a limitation to scripture - such an addition being a big no no in your tradition.

I believe that it's the actual definition of the greek word from which we derive our word baptism. I will grant that this definition has been altered to mean other than immersion today.

You speak as if the way to Christ is through Mary. This is entirely extra-Scriptural.

Of course it is. It is an accretion upon the Gospel. Those of accretionary views (i.e. RC's and Mormons)will generally try not to admit this and, as with liberal jurists, try to find some Biblical support in the penumbra of some obscure word or verse. But the fact is that these accretionary 'doctrines' are really found in their own 'infallible' 'traditions' or 'prophets'. Accordingly, they are generally untroubled by the accretionary nature of their pet doctrines.

But it does point out that once you slip the moorings of tethering your beliefs to the Word of God, all is fair game. Your accretions can become so heavy as to ship the entire ship. How sad -- and dangerous.

You take yourself too seriously. Franky rest, you and some of your compatriots are sooooooo eager to push the abuse button it is no wonder that Jim Rob wants to pull the plug on this forum. You can't take criticism and you can't take the truth. So when the truth is posted the thread gets pulled.

Even if you feel that what is posted is not true, you ought to be adult enough to just post your disagreements and post your proof that what was posted is NOT true. And if you can't prove it false, then accept it as true and deal with it.

Too often people on this forum go running to the Admin moderator every time they think that someone has them in a corner. Well if you have the truth you can't be cornered. You can't be trapped with the truth, but often the truth will trap you if you are caught in a lie.

So, rest, if you would refrain from pushing the abuse button every time you get the slightest bit upset, then maybe Jim Rob will not think about this forum and will let it go its merry way. But, if every 20 seconds he's getting an abuse message from people who can't handle the truth or don't know how to refute a lie, then this forum is toast.

If it goes away, I will have you to thank.

Now the big question is: Are you going to push the abuse button on this post?

Well obviously JTB took them down to the river so that they could get sprinkled with a few drops of precious water while they were standing up to their necks in the river. That doesn't mean they were "immersed".

It says they were baptized "in" the river. If Matthew had wanted to convey the message that they were actually "immersed," he would have said they were baptized "UNDER" the river or "with" the river or some other preposition.

Clearly if JTB wanted to baptize by immersion, he wouldn't have gone to the Jordan River, he would have gone to the synagouge and used the kitchen sink.

(/sarcasm)
