They're wrong on every count, and what they say doesn't reflect the beliefs nor official teaching of the Church.

Quite true. But their statement had no official weight, and they were very quickly brought to task for saying something so stupid. If Christians believe that salvation comes through Christ, then they would be wrong to leave anyone out.
