Rabbi warns: Some Christians are attempting to convert Jews

Don't agree with you about SBs and AGs--they tend to be rather shallow, my personal opinion--but it is absolutely ludicrous to worry about this, Rabbi.

If they want something else, they feel something's missing and they think they find it with Christ, then who are you to disapprove?

Why not do some prosletyzing of your own? That's how you guys got your numbers up about 1,500 years ago, after all, especially in eastern Europe.

"How can you eat meat and still be a vegetarian?" Cook asked.

If this is his best logic, I can see why he's worried about losing much of his congregation. Actually all religions in a free society can worry about the same thing, when people have a choice in religions, some will leave the one they were born in.

And that's a rather shallow, bigoted statement.

Actually, according to my PhD research, you are wrong.

There ARE

INTRINSIC

and

EXTRINSIC

believers of all persuasions including atheist/agnostic.

But the charismatics/pentecostals in my group as a group scored much more in the INTRINSIC direction.

In other words, their Christian convictions were heart-felt and lived out vs held in a surface way as one would put on a coat.

Traditional denominations had a much higher percentage of people scoring much higher in the EXTRINSIC direction.

I think your biases are coloring your perceptions or you have a very skewed sample to look at in your life experiences.

I'm Assembly of God and I find the "shallow" charge to be quite understandable... as long as it is applied to society at a whole and not targeted specifically at Southern Baptist's and Assembly of God members. I have found about an equal mix of shallow and sincere people both within and outside of my Fellowship. For every Jimmy Swaggart we have, we have a Mark Buntain. For every Jim Baker, a Tommy Barnett.

As for viewing the Jews a chosen people, even when they reject the Messiah, I would refer you to the Parable of our Lord of the Prodigal Son. This son had a birthright and he squandered it. When he returned to his father, his father accepted him and his brother rejected him. Should Christians act like the father or the brother in that story? You seem to suggest that we should have antipathy towards those who walked away from their birthright, but those "shallow" followers hope and pray that our brothers will come back home and accept their birthright again. We want to see our Father run to greet them when they walk through the gate. Sorry if that seems like hate to some people, I believe Jesus when he called that love.

I think everybody should be like me. Everybody has the right to be just like me. What I can't understand is the resistant I get when I try to change them. It's for their own good. People are really stupid, but I'm going to keep on trying. It's a free country, and they have nothing better to do.
