"I suspect that you've been a Christian long enough to have a Scripture jump out at you with 'neon lights around it' so to speak, signifying that it had a special immediat or current application to a burden or something you'd been concerned, praying about."
Well said. Don't you just love it when that happens? Praise Jesus Christ; Lord and Saviour of them that believe Him.

Thought so.
There's NO significant difference between THAT sort of experience and Holy Spirit speaking through the range of modalities/manners mentioned in Acts 2 as well as I Cor 12-14.
The only significant problems are biases on the part of believers about what God wouldn't/couldn't do according to their tidy little boxes they try to keep Him in.
The phenomenon of the experience of having the verse jump out at you has nothing to do with the ink on the page. It is totally a function of Holy Spirit in this time/space dimension NOW. And it shouldn't be at all surprising given Christ's promise that Holy Spirit would LEAD US (BELIEVERS) into ALL Truth . . . as well as that His Sheep would KNOW HIS *VOICE*!
Denying that is an exercise in mental and spiritual gymnsastics that is embarrassing to observe.
