The greatest commandment, after loving God is to love your neighbor as yourself. This is definitely no easy thing. But it isn't just a command, it's the Gospel in a sentence. There's really only two things going on in existence, God and Creation. We, being part of creation are God's neighbor. God loved His neighbor. He looked down and loved you. He loved His neighbor as Himself. And there is no greater demonstration of that than He gave up His life for you. He came down and put Himself in your shoes. He gave up His own life, for your life. This is the greatest demonstration of loving one's neighbor as yourself.
When God asks you to love your neighbor He is not asking you to do anything He wouldn't or hasn't already done. When you think it's so hard to do what the Lord said, He's already done it, and done it for you. You are so loved that you can never be afraid to love another as your own life, or to give your life for them. It has already been done...because God is your neighbor.
TODAY'S MISSION
In your prayers and quiet time today, instead of praying for your own needs, pray for the needs of your friends, family and neighbors. Seek ways, with His guidance and by His example, to love your neighbor and care for them.
Luke 10:27
So he answered and said, ""You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and "your neighbor as yourself."'

I am a firm believer in praying for others and not your self. Praying for others is charity in one of its greatest forms. I believe praying for one's self is not right. God gives us what we need when we pray for ourselves it is generally for what we want or in other words greed. Which most of us know is one of the seven deadly sins. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is a most gracious action. God is great!

You don't believe even in praying for strength to resist sin?

No, I believe God has given us that strength or I would be praying every minute of every day. Against pride, greed, glutony and so on. The voice of God is within your soul all you need to do is listen to it. He tells you before, during and after if something is a sin all you have to do is listen.

Although we are taught that we will never be tempted past our ability to resist, I believe that means "beyond our ability to resist given a maximum effort."
Temptation is temptation simply because it weakens our will to resist. Under such circumstances--say, when Old Scratch is dangling something that looks really sweet under your nose, or when you're tired and sick and easily angered--praying for some strength seems to me an entirely reasonable and proper thing to do.
Lastly, knowing that something is a sin is no guarantee that you will muster the strength to resist it at any given moment of your life, or even that you will remember to resist it. At least, that's true for me and some other people I know.
