You post them to ridicule. That is the problem. You are engaging in ridicule, without even being provoked.
The sooner your clique figures this out, the better. You guys are alright most of the time. You can provide insights on some issues. But you have to stop the attacks.

But I am not a defender of Mormonism either. I don't share its belief in the inspiration of the "Book of Mormon" nor its belief that the Church fell and needed to be revived.
This is the beginning of many things I disagree about. But I can do that in a reasonable manner, without the "underoo" jokes.
Can you see the difference?

Then you & I at least have this common ground from which to begin a discussion. You'll note, from my profile, that I am equally capable of discussing matters with both intellegence and humor (sometimes in the same breath). I happen to find the idea - and the image - of sacred undergarments humorous. You'll also see in my profile that I like to illustrate many of my postings with visual aids - sometimes to educate, sometimes to illustrate an ironic message, but always to attract attention and provoke comment to further a discussion.
In the case of the [5th Amendment]s, I'm well aware that certain undergarments are considered sacred, and not to be discussed or shared with those outside of the [5th Amendment]. But my grandparents used to hang theirs out to dry on the clothesline in my backyard, so I figured whatever was good enough for the neighbors to view in broad daylight was good enough to be viewed here on FR. Guess I was wrong on that count.

No, I can't - not when discussions of Christopher Reeve sucking stem cells out of the skulls of aborted babies is considered reasonable and permissable in the Religion forum? I have no problem with the subject matter (which I've also weighed into here) but warnings about engaging in "juvenile" behavior, coming from a guy who watches South Park, seem a bit hypocritical.
If that particular poster said anything more, he'd be banned permanently. Challenging the particular belief in question is, for him, verbotten.
That's what I have a problem with.
A military chaplain that I know sent some e-mails back from Kuwait. Here's one:
Our email was not working for some days, but now seems to be up for the time being. Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, was one of the most moving days I ever had as a priest. I went to another camp where it is much more primitive (they are living dug in the dirt and sand). I said Mass and most of the entire camp came -- including their Colonel Commanding Officer --filled their Mess tent to overflowing. The Protestant chaplains stood outside marvelling.
These guys will soon be in harms way, so I preached on confession. Almost every single Marine stayed after -- so I did confessions standing up as we didn't have much time -- then they all lined up for individual blessings as I consigned a blessed rosary or medal to each guy personally and prayed for his protection. Many of the Latino Marines held photos of their infant children in their hands for me to bless. It was very emotional experience.
Then a guy asked to be baptized. He swore he had completed his catechism on the ship on the way over. Since he was soon to be in danger, without any book or oils, I took him outside and baptized him. He even had two buddies standing by as sponsors.
I can't believe what the Holy Spirit is doing over here. I am getting scared about next week. Many of us are planning on sleeping on top of our racks fully clothed and ready to jump in a bunker if the sirens go off...
I'll continue to write while we still have the email open. God Bless and thanks for your prayers.
If you have a problem with hard-hitting satire, that is your cross to bear. The very fact that you make an issue of it shows that you don't understand that this was not shown to be a behavior that was to be applauded. Rather, the stark reality of using fetuses for experiments to strengthen other people was expressed in a manner deserving of the attrocity that it is.

But there is no reason for him to say anything at all about it. It wasn't even the subject of this post. It just comes out of nowhere.
It's an obsession.
SD
OK, I'll take another look. When I did earlier, there was not much commentary.
SD
I don't have a problem with an obsession about free speech.
#1, that wasn't the obsession I was discussing
#2, you have no free speech here. We all operate on the owner's turf at the owner's pleasure. If he instructs you to stop a particular behavior, then you do.

It seems that the question here is not free speech, but common civility. One doesnt go into a religious thread and bust out an underoos reference and expect it to be taken well, just as one doesnt go onto an underoos thread and expect people to want to discuss religion. There is a time and place for everything.
With all due respect, as a monthly contributor, I help pay for that pleasure.
Not here. There is no time or place for disagreeing with the [FR Fifth Amendment] protected class.
