The issue becomes to differeniate between body and spirit.
Death for the body is referred to as sleep. I don't think anyone would argue with that.
However, the spirit goes immediately to be with the Lord.

However, the spirit goes immediately to be with the Lord. I agree that the spirit goes immediately to the Lord. However I think the bible teaches that the state of the spirit is unconscious and that's also why the term sleep is used so often.
