Carroll’s narrow construal of orthodoxy is regrettable, as it risks freezing the tradition in a moment of time, namely the recent past, rather than recognizing that the great tradition is a living tradition that often reshapes its practice, theological language and life as it continues to reflect on the mystery from which it lives.

It is precisely the liberal "Spirit of Vatican II" crowd that wants to deny the rich and full tradition, believing that Vatican II created a new religion and that all before was benighted darkness.

I consider nothing after Seven Ecumenical Councils that were overseen by both the Patriarchs and the Popes to be correct Christianity.

...and I have resigned myself to being marginalized.

Many are called, but few are chosen. You aren't marginalized if you are on the side of Our Lord. You are Blessed.

No, you have to know you are there for a reason - nothing is coincidental. You are a butress and a reminder, you are not marginalized.

My main difficulty with Carroll’s book is the narrow way in which she construes orthodoxy.

It sounds like Fr. Rauch is not happy that Ms. Carroll (and other young people) have found what Vatican II was all about. The living faith of our fathers IS the same then and now. The Fr. Rauch's in Catholicism are the ones who succumbed to modernism and jettisoned all that went before.

"Ever Ancient, Ever New"?

Dang! I hardly remember what I had for supper last night! The title does ring a bell, though.

I have to go and pick up a "beta fish" - don't ask! See you later!

I'll check my email too because I emailed it to someone.

I don't think the words ever were in it, however. I did a search before I wrote back to you.

Maybe in the news forum......................I did not check there.

Colleen,
I guess I am dreaming.

What I sent in emails were the threads
A River Runs to It
In spite of it all, I love about being Catholic
