The Leftover Harvest
Sapphires | Jonathan Cahn

Posted on 02/19/2003 12:01:22 PM PST by WhatNot

The ancient Hebrews were given a very special and unique ordinance concerning the harvest: Whenever they reaped their fields, they were always to leave a portion of it unreaped. Whatever they dropped or missed in their reaping they were to leave, never going back to pick up anything they missed or lost, leaving it for the poor. This is the 'Law of the Leftovers.' It is a crucial principle for all God's children. If you want an abundant life you have to learn the Law of the Leftovers.

The point is this: life is filled with missed opportunities, mistakes, mess ups. But you can't dwell on them. If you belong to God, you need to let it go. Whatever is past is past. You want God's best? Move on. Leave it behind in the Grace of God and move on. The leave it behind Principle - it will lighten your load and free you to find God's best. You can't live in the past and you can't go back. God is now and He is moving ahead. Be like Paul who said, "But this I do, forgetting what lies behind and moving on to what lies ahead, I press on..."

TODAY'S MISSION
What are you holding onto that needs to be left behind? Bring it to the Lord today, entrust it to His care and don't go back to it again. Move on in the presence of the Lord.

Leviticus 19:9-10
9) "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10) And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the LORD your God.

A little girl visited a large church for the first time.
She was surprised to see the choir members enter the sanctuary
wearing choir robes and whispered in dismay to her mother:
"They're not all going to preach, are they?"

I thought the lesson of Leviticus 19:9-10 was that you should show charity to the poor and to strangers, not that you should forget your mistakes. Leaving the corners of your field (especially in the day when harvesting was done by hand, not a machine) was a deliberate act, not a mistake.

Whenever they reaped their fields, they were always to leave a portion of it unreaped.

The author mentions in this sentence it was a deliberate act.

Whatever they dropped or missed in their reaping they were to leave, never going back to pick up anything they missed or lost, leaving it for the poor

On the other hand if we do make mistakes, just don't dwell on them. Turn them over to God.
