We know about discipleship - that the Lord made disciples of His followers. We also seek to make disciples of new believers. We have discipleship pamphlets, discipleship teachers, and discipleship classes. Discipleship is important. There is something else that is just as important - "belovedship." It is important because you are called to love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself.
But you can't give love without first having love. How do you fill this greatest of commands? Learn belovedship. The Bible says "Walk in love as beloved children." To do this you must learn belovedship. Like discipleship, belovedship doesn't just happen. Your heart has to be trained to fathom it. You cannot be a disciple if you don't first learn the heart of the beloved. Begin now, learn simply what it is to be loved. Obey the Lord - learn to be loved by Him - and discipleship will follow.
TODAY'S MISSION
Find and write down one verse from the Book of John that for you best demonstrates God's Gift of Love. Receive His Gift of love with a joyful heart in your heart and share this Gift throughout your day.
1) Can you point to ways in which God's Word has been powerful in your life?
2) How has it changed you?
When I started truly building God's Word into my life I had severe arthritis in my back from an old football injury. But as that Word fed the Holy Spirit within me my arthritis went away and today I'm back to my usual exercise regimen, including "smoking" anyone that hikes with me. =^)
2) How has it changed you?
I focus everything in my life (and all my mistakes and imperfections) on my Father God and my Lord, The Christ, Jesus. This has brought peace, confidence, clarity, and hope to my life and the life to come.
Whoo-yaah!
PS Of course, I still have a weird sense of humor but so far God hasn't said anything about that . . . what could this mean?!?!
It means you were created in the Image of God... read Job 38:21, the Lord is speaking to Job out of the storm and this verse is a barb directed at Job, and it shows even God is not above using sarcasm. So you're in good company!
