If we can debate in the way that you suggested, then I could agree with you. It just seems that many debates that begin well end badly. I am actually undecided on the question of baptism being necessary for salvation. I was raised Baptist and was taught it was not necessary for salvation, although it was also taught that it was very important. Now I am Lutheran as a compromise with my wife who was raised Catholic. Lutherans believe that it is necessary unless you come to a saving faith in Jesus and then die before you have a chance to be baptized.

Pretty much the Catholic position. Baptism is considered as a normative means for salvation and "the door to the Sacraments."
