The Old Testament is full of barbaric cruelty, and it thus in conflict dramatically with the New Testament, which teaches forgiveness and meekness to the believers.
Historically, a Bishop theologian by the name of Marcion has begun a movement that disregarded the Old Testament. That was an effort to keep Christianity from having too many contradictions. His church prospered for a few hundred years, and vanished finally.
This post is to allow the believer to vent their views regarding the conflicting messages of the OT, and NT! Are there people like me who contemplate that glaring difference between God's guidance in these two books? If yes, let us discuss your views. Thanks.

17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. -- Matthew 5
Jesus never made the foolish mistake Marcion did. Ergo, Marcion was rightly condemned as a heretic.
Marcion elevated Paul's writings. Yet Paul says (speaking of the OT scriptures)...
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. -- 2 Timothy
So your beef, if you side with Marcion, is with Jesus and Paul too. Oops!!

Yeah, bump your post. I would add that we are to pursue the Law, according to Paul. We are simply to pursue the Law by faith and not by works.
