I like your screen name. Linux development is like the Catholic Church only if you believe the Catholic Church today inheres in what properly is called the Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church, (Orthodox Church for short). No visible centralized authority, but it all hangs together and keeps working.

The Latin church (which loudly claims the name "Catholic") is very Microsoft-ish: centralized authority, always issuing licenses (nihil obstaturs) for things, insisting that its monopoly is a good thing, but no, it's not a monopoly,. . .
