St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church was packed Sunday -- both with people and with rainbows -- a symbol of unity in the gay community.

The event went off following a week of controversy that included criticism from the local Right to Life Committee and the removal of the Mass's organizer from a Sept. 11 public speaking role.

There were also two young men who held signs that said, "The Bible is just a book" and "Catholicism preaches intolerance" and "Free your minds: Abolish organized religion."

It is interesting that Father Daley is on the same side as these folks--and, evidently, quite comfortably so. As a pro-lifer, I have faced the dilemma of being evaluated by the "company I keep," and so I won't do that with Daley. But I think it should give him pause.

>>The key to breaking that cycle is education, he said, which will defeat the myths and stereotypes about gay people that come from as far back as the Middle Ages. <<

Well as I understand it, they stick their &%$@# up another guys %@!~^. Of course that may just be a myth or stereotype...

Now the females, on the other hand, are left with..., with... Heck, use your imagination. I'm probably just stereotyping anyway.

From your link:
The Utica Fire Department threatened to cancel its participation "One Region United" at the Utica Memorial Auditorium if the Rev. Fred Daley were to speak. Firefighters became concerned after a newspaper article Monday described Daley's plans to host a Mass for gay and lesbian Catholics Sunday in Utica.

"Basically, I wanted him removed as the speaker," Assistant Fire Chief Russell Brooks told the Observer-Dispatch. "All these other issues and crusades should not cloud what this one day is all about. Sept. 11 is supposed to be a day of uniting and healing. I think it's very inappropriate for (Daley) to bring this to light on that day."

More to love about firemen! The city of NY is about 40% to 45% Catholic, yet between 85% & 95% of the rescuers were Catholic (highest percentages were the firemen) who lived the faith that day.

"I didn't tell anyone at the 8 a.m. Mass or the 11 a.m. Mass (what to do in their bedrooms), so I'm certainly not going to tell anyone here at the 3 p.m. Mass," he said, receiving more cheers and applause. "Certainly no one is going to push me to stand at the pulpit and explain what is intimate."

Exactly the problem, Father. Exactly the problem. Maybe someone in the Church should go back to teaching what is sin.

Two problems with this statement, Father. And both are serious.

First, if you were aware there was a certain kind of sin of ANY sort common among those attending your Mass at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and you didn't explain the seriousness of sin and consequences of persisting in sin to those in attendance, you are likely guilty of a sin of omission yourself. More importantly to your parishioners, you are failing to properly instruct them in the Catholic faith.

The second problem is that, by your above statement, you are implying that the bedroom is a sort of "free to sin" zone. You're implying that it is alright to do whatever you want in private, provided you act according to God's law in public. This is encouraging terrible hypocrisy of a sort Jesus specifically preached against.

Father, you have abandoned true care of these troubled Catholics for the sake of gaining their applause and making yourself a secular celebrity. You're using the Mass to further your popularity while you ignore the teachings of the Church and encourage others to persist in sin. You bring scandal to the Church as serious as any molestor.

I pray for your sake you have a bishop more interested in the state of your soul than you seem interested in the souls of those in your care. If so he will kindly remove you from your current assignment, which is clearly tempting you to occasions sin.

When this current bishop first came to Syracuse, Daley and other homo priests threatened him.

WOW!

Every sunday at 3pm Daley has the Nation of Islam meeting inside the church

WOW!

Daley has a homosexual group meeting in the closed Catholic school where they have crystals.

WOW!

Daley gives out condoms in the church parking lot.

WOW!

This is UNBELIEVEABLE!!! and he is still in the church..

Your post reminds me of a vision of Padre Pio, that I was told about, have not read, but was told He saw Christ with all these priests and bishops behind Christ, and Christ pointed and called them "butchers".
