But the end result is it doesn't accomplish anything.

I am a living example that these types of discussions accomplish miracles. I discovered the truth about Mormonism while debating with two Christian Friends (A Baptist and an Evangelical Free)-- Hmmmm, this may explain my fence sitting on the Calvin/Arminian threads :-)

It was through their knowledge of the bible and of the errors of Mormonism and their constant prayers for my salvation that I discovered the error of my Mormon ways, repented of my pagan beliefs and became a "born again" Christian.

So there is "some hope remaining." Perhaps there is hope for you!

Your #44: WM, I am frankly disappointed in your attacks on me. ... If ANYONE has acted like a slimy criminal defense lawyer around here it has been you. So get off your high horse and either debate me point by point, or quit whining ...

Calm down, Marlowe, take several deep breaths, and read my post (#39) again.

The aggressive attacker always accuses his intended victim of the things he himself is doing. It shows the basic dishonesty inherent in being willing to be an aggressive attacker.

>> ... about how evil I am.

Have I ever said that? No, I haven't.

Are you trying to tell us something? Is it "true confession" time? 8-)

But I have expressed great irritation with your conduct, your willingness to be an aggressive attacker, basher and trasher, quite the opposite of the "cordial discussion" you profess to be willing to engage in. We haven't seen any sign of it yet. When will we ever see it? I have pretty much lost hope.

Your #61 to Shr: I am a living example that these types of discussions accomplish miracles. I ... became a "born again" Christian.

Here is your objective, which has been plain enough all along: not discussion, but recruiting people to your point of view while bad-mouthing our point of view, as all may see in your post.

Can you honestly say you are acting like a born-again Christian? How do you expect people to believe that the discussion will somehow become cordial on your part once someone starts to discuss things with you? You and Steve are acting like wolves in sheep's clothing (as anyone can see from looking at the various threads Steve has set up for "discussion" with "ground rules"):

Little Red Riding Hood: "Why, Grandma, what big teeth you have!"

The Big Bad Wolf: "The better to eat you with, my dear!"

I thought of you guys tonight as I was looking at a new book called "Why I Believe". One of the sections is by a lawyer and since we were admiring lawyers so much a day or two ago I thought you might want to strike up a debate with this guy.

His name is Michael K. Young, a lawyer who also happens to be an LDS stake president in addition to currently being dean and professor of law at George Washington University Law School, a member of the U.S. commission on international religious freedom, committee on international judicial relations, and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He also served as an ambassador in George Bush Sr.'s administration among many other things.

Unfortunately, he's almost certainly not a Freeper with all the demands on his time. It's a shame. He probably would have ALMOST measured up to P-Marlowe's standards.

I guess you guys will just have to wait until I have more time myself. Or entertain yourselves on your new threads. I haven't bothered to read them yet.

Have you read "Why I Believe?" I signed up for the Deseret Book club, and received a free copy. I just haven't had time to read it yet. I was most certainly surprised to see Harry Reid's name in there, I didn't realize that he was LDS until the Dems took over the Senate last year, and then his religious affiliation started being mentioned.

That's how I got mine too. I've read a little bit so far but haven't had time to really get into it. It looks like it will be good.
