Bishop Sean P. O'Malley
In this, the first year of a new millennium and the 60th Anniversary of our club, we, the Friendly Sons, take great pride in awarding our "Person of the Year Award" to His Excellency, the most Reverend Scan Patrick O'Malley O.EM.Cap., Bishop of the Fall River Diocese.
Bishop "Sean", as he is affectionately known, was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on the 29th of June 1944. He prepared for the priesthood at St. Fidelis Seminary and the Capuchin College in Washington D.C. He was professed on July 14, 1965 in the Capuchin Order. On August 29,1970, he was ordained a priest of The Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, a religious order dedicated to following the Tradition of St. Francis ofAssisi. He then went on to earn a master's degree in Religious Education and a doctorate in Spanish and Portuguese literature, both at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where he taught from 1969 to 1973.
In 1973, he began serving as Executive Director of "Centre Catolico Hispano" in Washington before being named Episcopal Vicar for the Hispanic, Portuguese and Haitian communities and Executive Director of the Archdiocesan Office of Social Ministry in 1978.
He was ordained Coadjutor Bishop of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in 1984 and became Ordinary of the Caribbean Diocese the following year. In 1992, Pope John II appointed Bishop Scan to the Diocese of Fall River.
In 1998, he was appointed by the Holy Father to the Special Assembly for Oceania of the Synod of Bishops, which was held at the Vatican, from November 22 to December 12.
He has also served as Apostolic Visitator for several seminaries in Central America and the Caribbean. Bishop Scan is presently a nominee for Chairman of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
A strong believer and advocate in the works of Mother Teresa and the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, he has invited her to both the Virgin Islands and New Bedford, allowing missions to be established to aid the poor.
Time and space have limited use to listing the many accomplishments of our recipient this evening. However, we would be remiss if we were not to mention a few personal attributes of Bishop Sean. Notably, it should be mentioned that he is one of only two Capuchin to serve the in the Church Hierarchy. Additionally, Bishop Sean is fluent in five languages and versed in seven. In addition to all of these accomplishments, Bishop Sean possesses a wonderful sense of humor, as evidenced by the many speeches and homilies heard by the majority of us here tonight.
In closing, The Friendly Sons, their families, and friends would like to say "Thank You" to Bishop Sean for being such an integral part of our celebration each year.
<> Sounds like a perfect match for our Diocese. Thanks be to God and mega KJPL Dittoes to the Holy Father<>

You search for a post from over one month ago to what end? To prove you were right about something as insignificant as who said what about not posting to the other party?
You waste too much time, little man. I would suggest devoting this wasted energy into spiritual reading of the Doctors and, in particular, the Gospels. Feeding your ego by posting nonsense accomplishes little.
Condescendingly, you wrote in the researched post:
I'll remember you in my prayers.
I have saints who pray for me. Therefore, forget about me in your prayers. Although you may not know it, you really dont have the time for me. Devote your prayers and energies instead to those closest to you who are apostate. That is your obligation not posting nonsense and feeding your ego at an internet web site.
I have not nor do I ever intend to develop that "ability." Therefore, you can still cram it.
"I have not nor do I ever intend to develop that "ability." Therefore, you can still cram it."
Ah, Sock, after that nearly-civil post, I see that you're backsliding. Come on, you can do better than that.

For the record, I have a smile on my face and joy in my heart. You, however, are a patronizing egomaniac and it comes through in your posts. Something or other about I am an articulate fellow comes to mind. Nothing stinks more than self praise. Check the records since you have so much time to waste.
I think that it is likely that you know neither all my obligations, nor my purposes here.
I know about the apostasy within your family since you yourself mentioned it, nevertheless, you and your ego bore me, sitetest. Since you feel that your purposes here posting nonsense trumps your obligations to God and to your family, so be it.
Carry on.
Chapter 15<> 1 A mild answer breaketh wrath: but a harsh word stirreth up fury
<>I thought you'd appreciate seeing a verse from the Douay Rheims. You ought to congratulate sitetest, not denigrate him, for showing you Christian Charity.
His posts are the least egoistic of any regular contributor to these threads. You label him a patronizing egomaniac and accuse him of self praise when "I am an articulate fellow" is merely humility - seeing oneself as one really is. He has also noted his sinfulness previously - I guess you just forgot to note that.
More than one of us has asked you to control your anger and cease your namecalling. Why do you refuse to stop the namecalling?
<>Reconsider that paragraph. Look at how you describe yourself - smile on face..joy in heart...versus what your words reveal "you....paytronizing egomaniac....nothing stinks so much as self praise....have so much time to waste...posting nonsense trumps your obligation to God"
Those do not sound like the words of one with a smile on his face and joy in his heart. They sound like the words of a very, very angry man. In fact, most of your posts sound like they were composed in a state of anger. Those with joy in their hearts do not go about namecalling with smiles on their face. If they do, there is a problem with congruencey of mood and affect<>
Tomorrow's headlines to read:
St. Vibiana's remains standing while Our Lady of the Angels succumbs to tremors. Mahony crushed!
I now live on the Archdiocese of Boston/Diocese of Fall River parish line, and when I get a bit down in the mouth about the rather liberal tendencies of my Arch of Boston parish (most in my area are the same), I duck in for a Mass in one of the Fall River Diocese parishes for a stronger dose of Catholicism (the priests tend to be less liberal). Bishop O'Malley rarely appears in "Bishop" garb and he travels around the different parishes in order to be in touch with the flock. He is also always in communion with Rome - no ifs, ands or buts. He really is terrific!
