That is just the opposite of the marketing that seems to obsess the modern church

I do not disagree. But the church has more freedom in some countries than others. We are to glorify Him in either circumstance. In prison or in freedom He is to be presented...
Phil. 1:12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel; 13So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places; 14And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

Give me a break! There ain't no persecution going on for the vast majority of the Christians in America.
You know why? Because, we are no threat. We are quiet little rabbits, who may write letters, or sign petitions. But, Caesar can handle that. No sweat.
