Your problem you have this back ass-wards. With, of course, many individual exceptions the proponents of darwinian evolution in the 19th century tended to come from the camp of classical liberals (Darwin himself was a Whig). The antievolutionists tended to be classical conservatives (Tory, pro-religious establishment, pro-priveleged elites, anti-laissez faire capitalism, anti-religious dissentors, etc).

Again, in terms of general tendencies, the breakdown was something like this:

Classical Conservatives (Tories) - Creationist

Classical Liberals (Whigs) - Darwinian Evolutionists

Radicals, Socialists, etc - Lamarkian Evolutionists
