Prayer to Take Authority
unknown

Posted on 07/01/2002 6:30:14 PM PDT by Litany

In the name of Jesus, I take authority and I bind all powers and forces in the air, in the ground, in the water, in the underground, in the netherworld, in nature and in fire.

You are the Lord over the entire universe and I give you the Glory for your creation. In your Name I bind all demonic forces that have come against us and our families and I seal all of us in the protection of your Precious Blood that was shed for us on the Cross.

Mary, our Mother, we seek your protection and intercession with the Sacred Heart of Jesus for us and our families, and surround us with your mantle of love to discourage the enemy.

St. Michael and our Guardian Angels come defend us and our families in battle against all the evil ones that roam the earth.

In the Name of Jesus I bind and command all the powers and forces of evil to depart right now away from us, our homes, and our lands. And we thank you Lord Jesus for You are a faithful and compassionate God. Amen

That's real white of you to do this for Him. I'm sure He's grateful.

Okay here is something interesting. You know the St. Michael prayer? Well I think it is only the last part of a long prayer of exorcism written by that pope (can't remember his name.) The first part is really very close to a long prayer of exorcism said in a real exorcism. Whatever. Anyway, the other day I was on the EWTN site and listened to a recording of an old show with Raymond Arroyo. He was interviewing the head exorcist of the diocese of NYC. Well that priest said, that Cardinal Ratzinger said, that lay people should only say the St. Michael prayer and not use any full prayers of exorcism such as those a priest says from the Rite of Exorcism. He says those powerful prayers might stir the devil up, make him mad. A persistance is needed, exorcisms take a long time and the prayers have to be said over and over and laypeople just don't have the knowledge to take that on.

IMHO we laypeople should stick to the St. Michael prayer. I think because we should pray not as our individual selves as in "I bind the devil." We should pray with the entire people of God for St. Michael to do it through the power of God. Just my two cents.

That is the first I heard of this being part of an exorcism prayer. I have been saying this for several years, and especially since 9/11. I do always say the St. Michael prayer too.

"That is the first I heard of this being part of an exorcism prayer. I have been saying this for several years, and especially since 9/11. I do always say the St. Michael prayer too."

Pardon me I am not making myself clear. I did not mean to say that your prayer that you posted is part of another exorcism prayer. It's not. It's just that your post put me in mind of what I heard on EWTN. And what I got out of it was just be careful with exorcism types of prayer. The St. Michael prayer is safe for us to say according to Ratzinger. The taking authority prayer you posted is IMHO kind of different in that you personally are binding the devil. But if you notice the St. Michael prayer is more a prayer of the Church as in defend US in battle. In other words, there is safety in numbers.

And I guess I kind of got the creeps when the program said we should be careful not to stir the devil up with exorcism prayers and mentioned no other safe prayer but the St. Michael one. If you have been saying the taking authority prayer for years then who am I to tell you not to? It seems to be a good practice for you. I just was sharing what I heard because your post made me think of it.

Just because I think it is interesting I will tell you that My great uncle was a priest and he always said just don't even think about the devil because that old saw, "Think of the devil and up he pops." is true. And I was on a Catholic list discussion group with a man in Rome who assisted at exorcisms. When we would talk about exorcisms and things he would try to get us to stop talking about it. He never really said why, but he was clear that it was better not to talk about it.

Yes I see your point, however I respectfully disagree. I have prayed about this a great deal, in addition to reading and discussion and I have come to believe that it is important to bind evil spirits if you discern they are present. And I am truly convinced there is much oppression, even possession, in the world today.
Peace...
