St John Maximovitch of Shanghai and San Francisco who spent some time in France, was very interested in such. He passed that down to Father Seraphim Rose, of blessed memory, and there are a few collections for the Orthodox yet available. I have an icon of St. John, and first became aware of Orthodoxy through a book about Fr. Seraphim. My middle son, Dmitri Seraphim, is named in part in his honor. I wish there were more of their caliber in our Church in the West. Christ Bless.
St. John reposed in the church in which I was chrismated. I have had the honor of sitting to help make the peroshki and listening to the elderly babushki speak of having St. John to dinner.
St. John is a special favorite in our home as he cared for orphans in Shanghai and then in San Francisco.
