The Children of the Sixties

By Darren Morrison

I was born in the early sixties, well 1962, so I did see something go on with the hippies. I saw smoke from tear gas as they tried to destroy a courthouse. At the time I lived in Boulder Colorado. My parents told me to stay away from the hippies. They were the un-bathed longhaired people. Since I was very young I just did what my parents told me. I did not know why and at the time could not have known anyway. Ever try to explain politics to a 5 year old? Though my mom was in college during that time they were levelheaded enough to not get involved with the nonsense that was going on.

The sixties were a time of change, but for the most part it was not for the good, and too bad because there were important issues like racism that were brought to the surface only to be clouded over by the sexual revolution and the drug culture. Martin Luther King Jr. was overshadowed by Janis Joplin and Timothy Leary. Many ills of our country can be traced back to the sixties. To many it was a time of enlightenment, but the truth be known it was the darkest of times. While our men were in Vietnam fighting the evils of communism our rich kids were back home bad mouthing them. The well to do kids whose parents got them out of the war were the main thrust in the anti-war movement but what it turned out to be was an anti-soldier movement. When many of the young men got off the plane in Vietnam they found the windows were caged in for their protection. When they got back to the states they found that there were cages over the windows here too because hippies would throw things to try and hurt the veterans coming home. Many were dishonored and spit upon. But the hippies were not much in the brain department or they would have known that soldiers don’t start wars. politicians do. But as I studied about the Hippie culture, I realize that they were not that intelligent they only thought that they were.

From there sexual revolution we have A.I.D.S. It spread like wild fire in this country, because of the work of the hippies and their sexual revolution. We have a vast number of unwed mothers whose children grow up without fathers. We have an alarming rate of teen pregnancies that continues tp accelerate every year despite the free condoms the schools give out. We have a moral decline that is ruining young peoples lives. The number of teen suicides continues to grow every year as the body count continues the sexual revolution takes more lives than Vietnam ever did.

What about the drug culture we had a past president who didn’t inhale. Yea right, I will stack my life on it that boy inhaled. I refuse to call Bill Clinton a man because he is not one. The crime rate has increased due to drug use. Yes our inner city hospitals are a war zone because of drugs. Drugs have destroyed countries like Columbia and Burma where the drug lords are more powerful than the governments. The Drug culture of the sixties has caused abuse to children and women. Drugs fuel the porn industry. Drugs have killed not only the one who used them but also sometimes those around them. Drugs have caused tragic car wrecks, and countless deadly accidents of carelessness. Drugs have caused murders when a person is on drugs they might do things that in a rational mind they might have not done. The prisons are full of people who would not be there if they had said no to drugs. Theft is up because of drug using scum who have to steal to get there next fix. Prostitutes live off the streets to pay for their drugs. My wife has to carry a gun because of the effect of the drug culture. I am not talking about the drug war by our government we all know that that is only a way to give big brother more power. Because this so called war on drugs has done nothing to even minimize the amount of drug use in our country. Now we pay more for the drug culture with a less safe country and a government that has more control over our lives.

Many of those in the sixties are in their late 40’s and 50’s and they are in control of major parts of our government. So is it any wonder that things are so screwed up. I am not saying that every one who grew up then is messed up in the head, just those who were tuned in to the hippie culture. Our Department of Education is a real mess and we can thank the mindless ex-hippie that run that. They run our media as well. Is it any wonder that the news we get is so distorted from the truth. City counsel members all over the country are ex-hippies free loading on your tax dollars. Heck look at Bill and Hillary there is nothing I need to say there. Barbara Boxer, Chuckie Schemer and all the other tax guzzling pollutions who like to use your money as if it were theirs and spend it to control your life even more.

A communist movement grew out of the sixties and now we have people who are so mixed in the head that they try think that it will still work and bring about a utopia. Well they forget that Russia was not a picnic of freedom, nor is Cuba. They forget about the body could in Cambodia.

Hollywood likes to portray the sixties as a fun filled part of American history where the hippies were just people trying to get along. I guess that is why they had to cage the bus windows. Back then the hippies were not throwing daisies at the windows but bottles of gasoline, knives, glass, big rocks and anything else they could to hurt those inside the buses. Yes these were the peace loving hippies. Ask a veteran from that time period. I was too young at the time to do anything, but I will say it now thanks veterans of Vietnam. You people who spit on the veterans returning home or called them pigs better never let me find out that you did that. I might forget I am a Christian for a minute and plant my fist square in your face. Heck, I will not forget I will just do it then ask for forgiveness if GOD feels it necessary.

Back in 1999 they had a Woodstock music festival it was a mad house Women being raped and sexually assaulted, Violent fights broke out every where, vandalism every where and after the celebration was over the trash and pollution was so bad they had to bring in a front end loader and dump trucks to take care of the pollution left behind. Well, that is your dream Hippie that is the result of the social change you brought about. From Woodstock to Woodstock is the world a better place to live? I think not.

Thank GOD for my Church; a refuge in the storm. I can go to a place where I don’t have to see the results of the sixties where we have values the ladies dress like ladies and the men are gentlemen. Where boys grow up and become men and girls grow up to become ladies. Where Parents love the kids and people are pleasant to one another. My church is like a family.

AMEN.

The naive veneer of the sixties ended in August of 1969 when the Charles Manson and his hippie chicks left Spawn Ranch.
