According to the material I've seen, the Mormons don't even realize the positions of their church fathers.

The official teaching of the church is that Jesus and Lucifer are/were spirit brothers, equal in stature, before Lucifer got ticked and left heaven. And, I do understand that they believe they will become gods when they die, with their very own planet, and a spirit-spouse to populate it with spirit-children. (Please - no flames. I'm just paraphrasing to make it quick...)

And YES - although I do not align with the Mormons, I DO think the Naval Officer was a jerk, if the story related is accurate.

Funny. That's exactly how I view most of the Christian sects of the world. Most Baptists, for example, know next to nothing about the doctrines of their own church.

A friend of mine, a Latter-Day Saint who used to be Baptist, became disenchanted with the Baptists faith when his studies revealed how much their "faith and message" had changed over the past 150 years. He left off studying for the ministry shortly after that, and some time later converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

"According to the material I've seen, the Mormons don't even realize the positions of their church fathers."

Then the material you've seen is either wrong, or you have not understood it. The average faithfull Mormons is much better informed about the doctrine and the history of their faith than the average non-Mormon christian is in my experience. It is very rare that you find a non-Mormon christian who writes about Mormonism accuratly, so belive something just because you see it in print.

"The official teaching of the church is that Jesus and Lucifer are/were spirit brothers, equal in stature,"

Wrong. Official doctrine that God the Father is the father of ALL spirits, Christ's, Lucifer's, your's and mine. Lucifer rebelled against God, was expelled and became Satan, but he was NEVER equal with Christ.
