Those leaders in prison clothes did not go to jail just to be politically incorrect. They said it was an absolute commandment, and were willing to die to obey it. I'm sure some cynical or faithless people thought the same thing when Peter said he got a revelation to take the gospel to the gentiles. Either the revelation came or it did not. You can rely on your limited ablities to try and guess what the truth is or you can go to God and find out.

Something that was prophisied would happen over a hundred years before, also, who can recieve the priesthood is a practice, not a doctrine.
