Yesterday's thread on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Summer Plenary Session. turned up a lot of Catholic FReepers suggesting that it's time for the faithful laity to get more visible and active in pressing for a restoration of right order in the Church. To that end, I've decided to develop and maintain a list of Catholic FReepers, sorted by state, as a resource for future activism. Some of us will wish to collaborate on future projects; others may simply find the list handy for purposes of fellowship. If you want to be on this list, please post your state (or overseas country) on this thread. I'll collate whatever comes in, and Askel5 will post the results on the ConSpiratio web site.
In posting your FR handle and location, you're not volunteering for anything except the chance of being contacted in the future. Whatever activism you then undertake is entirely up to you. For the record, I have no specific plan for this list, nor am I aware of anyone else's. It seems like something that needs to be done, however, and I'll wager the very existence of a good list will generate fruitful ideas.
If you prefer not to post your location, please bump the thread anyway. Thanks!
I'm shamefaced, I was the same. I thank God every single day that He has helped and allowed me come back to Him. I've never been so happy.
Yes! "The Pastoral Provision is a generous arrangement made by the Holy See in 1980 for those who were formerly priests and laypeople in the Episcopal Church and who now wish to enter the Roman Catholic Church while retaining some of the elements of their Anglican heritage and customs." [Source] "The creation of the 'Anglican Use' parishes stemmed from the statement made by Pope John Paul II in 1980, as a result of a proposal from the bishops of this country to develop terms under which former Episcopal clergymen and other members of the Episcopal Church could be admitted to full communion in the Catholic Church while still retaining some elements of their liturgy, tradition and devotional life."[Source]
Anglican Use parishes are 100% Catholic, 100% in union with the Pope, and 100% loyal to the Bishops and Magisterium. We have "no affiliation with the so-called 'Continuing Anglican Movement,' nor with any branch of the Episcopal or Anglican churches. Rather, its members, many of whom are converts from the Episcopal Church, have been granted permission to retain some elements of the Anglican liturgical heritage while being fully Roman Catholic.." [Source]
So don't worry -- the Anglican Use parishes are completely Catholic, and celebrate the same Mass that every other Catholic Church in the world does -- and are more traditionally liturgical than many! Keep in mind that "[w]hile the liturgy used" in the Anglican Usage of the Roman Rite "is not a separate Rite, it is the only approved variation of the Latin Rite in the United States." [Source]
I hope you'll pay a visit to the 100% Roman Catholic Congregation of St. Athanasius in Boston. You'll be glad you did!
Yours in Christian Fraternity,
Yours in Christian Fraternity,
Thanks,
Dan
And you know... I miss votive candles.
No! You are not being too picky. The Tabernacle contains the Real Presence, the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I'm tired of attending Mass at strange churches while travelling and having to spend 5 minutes tracking down the Tabernacle.
I belonged to what was once the only somewhat traditional parish in my area, then we built a new sanctuary, removed the Tabernacle to a chapel off the "commons" and it's been down hill there ever since. We had an uproar about that and as a result the Pastor installed a small temporary Tabernacle behind and to the right of the altar. If you didn't already know it was there you'd never notice it. They've completely lost the sense of reverence that I grew up with. Nobody genuflects anymore...the children don't even know how to genuflect, and nobody knows when to genuflect anymore. Kids run back and forth to and from the bathroom...even at the Consecration. They've adopted the obnoxious habit of nodding their heads when they approach the altar..even though the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the tiny little half hidden Tabernacle. I suppose that nod is acceptable to a bare altar when no Tabernacle is present, but it's unsettling to see folks approach the Tabernacle and nod...like they're seeing a buddy in a pub.
No I don't think you're being picky...leave the Tabernacle where it belongs. It contains the central mystery of our Faith and it's place should be central in our sanctuaries and our hearts.
