Satan seeks to redeem us to him, which requires destruction of us and binding us to devotion only to him. Such binding to satan is the destruction of man and removes us from the rewards that Christ offers to all creation.
The number "6" is the fallen man, the man given the ability to sin, the man in need of a redeemer. The number "666" is fallen man giving devotion to his fallen nature and glorifying sin, thus by expression one given to the devil.
