US Cardinal soon to be outed as homosexual...Which one?
O'Reilly, NY Post, The Diocese Report, others... ^

Posted on 05/20/2002 7:49:43 PM PDT by Polycarp

On Fox tonight O'Reilly said a cardinal is about to be outed as an active homosexual. Rumor has it Bishop Bruskiwiecz sent a letter telling this Cardinal to "resign, or else..."

NY POST: WHICH American cardinal recently disclosed to insiders a confidential letter he received from a bishop urging the cardinal to resign for the good of the church? The cardinal is being urged to quit before his much-gossiped-about homosexual indiscretions are uncovered by the media . . . WHICH ranking priest of a major diocese predicted over a boozy dinner the other night that if the media outs this particular cardinal, "then the dominoes will really start to fall"?

Don't forget Cardinal Puff. "Cardinal Puff, I drink to you the first drink of the evening." (Please tell me others of you remember this drinking game!)

Or to put it another way...if you can graduate from a four-year college, enduring the Freudian, Marxist, and Foucaultian postmodern jargon, complete the equivalent of an MA in Theology from a seminary, read all the books of the Bible, and be expected to know what praxis, kerygma, and parousia mean, you can learn the basic ABCs of ecclesiastical Latin. If we expect men to be able to distinguish between pedophilia, ephebophilia, and homosexuality, they can learn the Pater Noster, Agnus Dei, and Credo. The Church should encourage such literacy among its adult members. The idea that learning Latin is impossible is liberal propaganda. It also may be the result of some teachers of Latin in secondary schools who attempt absurd volumes of classical poetry and monotonous conjugation and declension exercises (without any attention to basic ecclesiastical Latin or liturgical chant).

>>I have never had sexual relations with any man, woman, or child in all my seventy years. Never!!<<

It depends on what you mean by sex.

remember the sage of Hope, Arkansas's famous words, "Eatin' ain't cheatin'-it's in the Bible..."

Whatever happened to Father Harvey's organization/program named COURAGE ? It was designed to help homos be chaste . Of course they would probably need underground or "closet" chapters to hide the clerical members .

Hey, hold on! I loved Latin in high school; we did our endings drills in 9th grade before class while we waited for the teacher. I loved Cicero and Vergil (though, as I say, they made Church Latin really easy!).

If Richard Reid and Johnny Jihad can learn Arabic, anyone can learn Latin.

Curious about Col. & Mrs(?) Law(?) The Air Force must have had 'a delicate situation' on its hands in 1931. You would think that a 1931 Air Force Colonel has a pedigree, wouldn't you?

Its time for lay Catholics to take off the gloves and use whatever methods are available to excise this cancer.

1) Withold your money. That will get their attention like nothing else.

2) Come back to 2,000 years of Roman Catholic Tradition. The water's fine here.

When I was on the yearbook staff in high school, I quoted a snatch from a medieval Latin poem on the page for the Latin Club and was rebuked by the Latin teacher for using bad Latin!

Well..it only took a little while for the snakes to show up. I love some of the snide commentary on this thread.

Looking for icons of St. Michael has got me to thinking about Leo XIII and the vision he had while he was in conference with the cardinals directly after having celebrated mass. Vision of Leo XIII

LOL! You probably would have been even more sharply rebuked by Cicero, though.

An active homosexual? In my view, as long as he is remaining celibate, he is asexual, not homosexual (regardless of proclivity).

There are good teachers, yes. Undoubtedly. Some students claim to find some of these grammar and vocabulary courses boring which is one reason ( I guessed) may explain the negative response to the idea of learning Latin for liturgical and ecclesiastical purposes (which is something I advocate). Different teaching styles are definitely a factor involved in whether the experience is enjoyable for the majority of the students. At any rate, there are many liberal superstitions about ancient and classical languages as so much hocus pocus. Whether the stereotype of the anal retentive grammar teacher is based more on fact than fantasy is...well...something which can be debated, I guess. I've seen that type in action (as well as the entertaining style of language teacher).
