The evangelical church and addressing pertinent social issues.

Does anyone know of an answer to this question? I have been pondering it for some time now.

What can the evangelical church do to address pertinent social issues without becoming to sociological?

They can not.

They can continue to believe, and it's members, as part of the Body of Christ, can pray. No doubt, they will be heard. V's wife.

Here is my 2 cents.

I think if you look in the right places you can find the church opposing many cultural and social policies and trends. I must say that I rarely visit anything but Baptist churchs so that is the extent of my experience. THat said, the pastor of the church that I attend (large congregation - 20k+) spent over a month last year preaching a series on the culture wars and Christianity's role. It was terrific. Preaching Biblical morality and exposing those things, be they trends, programs, policies, or ideas, that run counter is about all that the church leadership can do. If the active church body in America could somehow bring the pew-warmers into the game the impact would be much greater.

Jesus responded to social issue by doing not just talking. He was very active in alleviating the suffering of others, not just spiritually.

There is in fact the entire concept of liberation theology.

You are right of course about pew warmers. It is time the Christian church move out of their building and safety zones and into the streets. Christ never meant when talking about the church, that it was a building.

The church is people.
