I suspect that working as a pastor he is often victimized by those who "gossip, slander, backbite, whisper and bear false witness." So there may be a personal angle here. Nevertheless, calling a professing believer unregenerate is very serious. Only God knows the heart.

There is a Luther quote (and my Table Talk is in storage so I can't look it up) that goes something like this: "We when get to heaven we will be surprised by 3 things. We will be surprised by those we expected to be there who are not. We will be surprised by those we didn't expect to be there who are. And, after looking around, we will be surprised that we are there."

He didn't call any particular professing believer unregenerate. He said that a lot of professing believers are unregenerate. Of course, that's still a very serious thing to say, but there's a really good chance he's right.

Knowing Brian I don't think he would be like that,(but then again it's been about 12 years now since I've seen him.) One of his disciples though gave me the rub like that for awhile after Brian left the area I was in. I've always believed that Brain would of not condoned this believers attitude at the time, he was by himself in his attitude. I think you would find that Brian would easly sit down and have a Pint of bitter with you and smoke a pipe with you if his wife would let him.(that is the pipe)forget american beer though.

P.S.--I knew Brian overseas while in the military, he left for the states to be a preacher before I left. His ministry was basically to singles in the military.
