You know, I think I've read about or been told about this Veronica person. Doesn't she have the stigmata or something? My aunt is very much into being well-versed not only on the apparitions (and various things surrounding them), but the numerous claims made about visionaries. I think it all makes for very interesting reading, and certainly (at least in my case), serves as a spiritual cattle prod to remember to stay on the straight and narrow.

One time I was reading about someone who had died. The very next morning, the family had the local parish say a Mass in the deceased person's name, and the night after that, the relative had a dream/vision where the deceased person came and spoke to her. She asked, "Why did you take so long to perform Mass for me?" The relative replied that they held the Mass only a dozen hours after the woman had died. "A dozen hours? I was in purgatory for 12 years of torment in flames, purging me of my sinful nature."

I may be distorting the story unintentionally, but the gist of it was that purgatory (at least, according to this particular vision), is no walk in the park.
