The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

angelo, Wordsmith just posted some ugly gossip and statistics about the catholic church and then cleaned it all up by saying he would pray. :-)

Now, answer me. Do you think Jesus in Heaven is exsanguinated?

Do you have some "Rat Terrier" blood in you? You must be aware I would have answered this question the first or second time if I felt it necessary. If I chased your ass up and down the hill for days on end every time you "missed" a question of mine we would have to establish a thread called "SuperSpin Refuses to answer...." I have no idea of the answer. Do you? I suspect He is pure spirit, I suspect everyone in Heaven is pure spirit. If I am correct, there is no blood.

I'll continue to pray for your fellow churchmembers.

Thank you. According to that article you found, it looks like we need it. Do you have a source (link) for that article?

My daddy always quotes Mark Twain: "There's 3 kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies, and statistics."

I'm sorry to be so dense, I guess I'm not seeing your point. You usually state your case in an upfront manner and I was taken aback by your response to my post.

OK, let me try to clarify. Catholics point the the last supper as the point in which Jesus instituted the eucharistic ritual. What I'm curious about is what basis there is for asserting that one must be ordained and in the line of apostolic succession in order for one to successfully consecrate the bread and wine. Jesus himself does not say this. SD suggested that Jesus spoke only to the apostles, but that assumes that there were no other disciples in the room at the time.

Hello? What did I just say? I listened to you and others here. Now Havoc is saying something different. Tell him to handle the Word of God with respect, eh?

He does.

Now is it you or Havoc that is truly spirit filled and led to all truth?

I dunno. Is it you or all the homo priests in your church that have the Holy Spirit?

It's on www.andrewsullivan.com - it's a daily "blog." He's a politically conservative gay Catholic, currently waging a daily Internet war over the abuse scandal with anti-homosexuality folks like Rod Dreher from National Review Online and Fr. And what might that be?

The same kind of use of logic and scripture that derived Marianism to be applied to all topics.

Not to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, but the Orthodox think the Catholics are completely wrong on this point. Every Orthodox Christian partakes of both the bread and the wine at the Eucharist. The bread is broken and soaked in the wine, and the priests and deacons serve to each communicant directly from the chalice with a spoon.

I am so sorry. You should move:) I was on the horse yesterday 5 hours. I am a bit tired today, it's hell getting old:). The humidity was high yesterday, but it stayed in the 70's around here. I love this time of year. Hope it gets there soon. Becky

Mornin' Becky. Hey, if I rode on a horse for 5 hours, I'd be sore, too!

Spring is notoriously schizophrenic in this part of the country. You can have 70s or 80s one day, and 30s a day or two later. I don't tolerate high humidity too well. When y'all are sweltering in humid 90s and 100s, we're enjoying summer temps in the 70s and 80s, with an occasional 90 degree day. So its a tradeoff.

Of course, the "real problem" is that a majority of American Catholics are willingly apostitizing from the Roman Catholic Church.

I would posit that they are neither willing nor apostitizing. That would imply that they had had the benefit of a proper catechesis to begin with. It is this which is the saddest part of the twisted legacy of the "progressives" who hijacked the "Spirit of Vatican II."

I would hazard to say that a majority of those calling themselves Catholic have absolutely no idea what that means. Remember there are sizable numbers of "Catholics" who poll that they do nto believe in a Real Presence in the Eucharist.

The post Vatican II education has consisted mostly of a focus on "being nice" and working for "justice" for all, with no regard for the need for repentence before forgiveness is given. Likewise, many believe that the Council declalred that one's individual conscience is the highest guide we have, neglecting the idea of a "fully formed" conscience, that is, one formed according to Catholic teaching.

And numbers don't mean they're right, obviously. At one point the majority of Christians would have "polled" in favor of Arianism. But it's certainly disturbing nonetheless. I'll continue to pray for your fellow churchmembers.

Please do. Things will no doubt get worse before they get better, and this is not going to be a quick process. But the end result will be a stronger, if smaller, Church.

I think that it's probably a case of a faulty manuscript (Greek) being used and the error then propagating. Every modern translation uses "or," and they are produced using the best available manuscripts.

I considered that as well. The problem is that the source I used was the KJV Greek lexicon (online with crosswalk.com). I would presume that the Greek text they use for their word counts is the same one that was used for the KJV. It seems more like they knew what the word was but chose to translate it differently. This could (theoretically) be ok if they feel it has a dynamically equivalent meaning, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I also think that the "Sola KJV" crowd is pretty sold on those manuscripts over every other translation before or since.

Do you have some "Rat Terrier" blood in you?

I suspect "bobcat."

You must be aware I would have answered this question the first or second time if I felt it necessary.

Maybe I felt it was necessary. Maybe answering questions is the way we learn about each other and the wa we explain points. If you don't wish to engage, I wish you wouldn't.

If I chased your ass up and down the hill for days on end every time you "missed" a question of mine we would have to establish a thread called "SuperSpin Refuses to answer...."

If you don't want to engage, then drop it. You keep posting on the subject, and I'll keep asking the question. As long as you keep trumpeting your ignorance, I will keep trying to save you from it.

I have no idea of the answer. Do you?

I already said it three or four times. It is germane to the conversation about the body and blood we were having.

I suspect He is pure spirit, I suspect everyone in Heaven is pure spirit. If I am correct, there is no blood.

Hooray! You answered the question. Thank you.

End of subject.

"Dissident Catholic" would be better. Or "ex Catholic."

He makes no bones about his contempt for Church teaching that describes his sex life as sinful or his condition as disordered.
