The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

all you can produce on your own is self righteous works and fruits.

Who said anything about "on your own?" My dream is that some day some NC will actually consider what is being said.

This is at least the 6th time this week I have had to ask what "believe" means. No one has yet really answered.

Is it just an intellectual acceptance of an idea or a trust in a promise, or it there something more?

Besides, you are now in the position of arguing that baptism is necessary for salvation. Or is that a difficult Scripture?

LOL. I don't even see a doctor yearly. Does that make me an irresponsible pet owner. My animals all get the required yearly shots, but no exam if they are healthy.

I was an irresponsible parent also, after the first kid, I didn't do the well baby check-ups either. They went when their shots were due, or if they were sick, but that was it.

I guess it just makes you an Okie. (That's not meant in a disparaging way.)

I see Doctors at least every three months and have almost been killed by some of them. I sometimes wonder?????

I dunno?

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condmned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

2 Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am ot ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

From the Amplified Version:
John 3:16 For God so greatly love and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

Does that help?

Well I have asked you what "discern" means and you refuse to answer.

Believe= Accept as truth. (Period. End of game).

I am not really arguing the position. I will argue that infant Baptism is a waste of time.

Actually I accept the RCC position on Baptism of desire.

Either jesus was a liar or a fool or crazy if he was not God. It is hard to understand why any non believers would quote it as true

You know, other than claiming to be the Messiah, Sun Myung-Moon has some pretty solid teaching that should be listened to.....

Discern, from dictionary.com:

To perceive with the eyes or intellect; detect.
To recognize or comprehend mentally.

Now that we've got that straightened out, can you explain to me how one is to detect something that is not present? How does one recognize something that isn't there?

Is dictionary.com too special of a definition for you?

It's hard to believe that after you've been shown/told before that there ARE other options that you still keep harping on liar or fool for Jesus.

It's hard to believe that after being shown where Jesus claims to be God, claims the very names of God for Himself, and accepts worship of Himself that you still keep grasping at a non-existent fourth option.

No, not really. Both show that works are needed for salvation.

Actually, I disagree. One shows that works is needed for salvation and the other shows that works is a product of salvation.

Removing things from the context for which they were meant can, and often does, change the meaning.

remarkable silence, from you and from all the rest of the "faith alone/OSAS" crowd. That says all I need to hear

Why not just ask us ? :') These were think questions and you just wanted to argue. I was exhausted. It feels like I've been at the facility day and night this week and I didn't feel like playing.. And what's the point anyway? You know where I stand. "I don't know" what a hypothetical person might say was an honest answer. Your court.

My only comment is that I've read chapter 13 twice the last two days but when I go to comment I can't remember what I read :'(. I'm done for the week. I'm gonna take a nap and then I'll look at it again.

Me? Argue? ;-)

Get some rest and we'll have a go at this some other time. Hey, at least we didn't spend the day arguing about the Assumption.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condmned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Do you think it possible to believe Jesus is the son of God without believing in the Trinity?

If works are a product of salvation, then do we bear no responsibility to see that they happen? Do they just happen? Do we become sock puppets?

Today is my son's birthday also. He was born 30 years ago and I took him home on my 19th birthday. He's in Okanawa (ms?). I'm sending him cash. He asked what I wanted for my birthday. I told him that I wanted him to go to church Sunday. He doesn't understand why I can't just be like other mothers and want "mother stuff" ')
