Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
First I heard of this. Doesn't sound right to me.
What do you think? The question is insulting on its face. As if you believe the Pope never thanks God for anything. Please.
Let me rephrase that. Has the Pope ever publicly thanked God, as he did Mary, for "guiding" the bullet?
This is a serious question. I really don't know the answer.
SD>Thanks, Chuck. Interesting.

The difference for me is that Easter is defined by man at a council and Passover is defined by G-d in His Word.

Well, the angel announced to Mary that she would "conceive." Not that God would plant a child in her, or some other wording.

lol...I can just picture that. :-)
Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Phil 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
There are about many definitions of perfect.
In a statement like that, I don't know.
I would be very suspicious if the Pope did not offer a Mass of thanksgiving after he was recuperated.

Do you care to address the "Mary was without original sin" question with Scripture?
Point understood. It's that "authority" question again. I don't know what any Protestant would follow the Church calendar, except because of "tradition"

Hail Mary, full of grace.

That is, is Jesus related to her? Did He take His human nature from His mother?
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisdec.
Heb 7: 1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Mat: 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Its 15 Nissan 5763 today. :-)
That only proves Mary needed grace.
I don't see Sacred Tradition being equal to human tradition.
Yes. Do you have a point? Those made monks after the order of Benedict may all wear the same robes, but they don't share a lineage.
Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Is it your contention similarly that Jesus has no father?
Mat: 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
To counter biblewonk's peculiar exegesis, Jesus should have added "Except for me, of course. I'm the greatest man who ever lived."

Some see you sacred tradition as being human tradition.
Yes, it does. It also shows that she had already received her full complement of it. This occured at her conception.
Saying Mary was born without original sin does not mean she did not need grace or a savior.

Saying Mary was born without original sin does not mean she did not need grace or a savior.
Silly me. I always thought grace meant something like "unmerited favor"..
And what could be more unmerited a favor than being saved from sin before you were even born?
