Jesuit-run Georgetown University celebrates pro-LGBT ‘OUTober’

Some of Georgetown's upcoming 'OUTober' celebrations include a Catholic 'Mass of Belonging,' a Jewish 'Pride Shabbat,' and 'Queer Space Pumpkin Decorating.'

Georgetown University, the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, is hosting several pro-LGBT events as part of its celebration of “LGBTQ+ History Month,” or “OUTober,” while trying to claim a Catholic identity.

In an October 1 announcement, the university touted the fact that it was the first “Catholic, Jesuit higher education institution” to create an “LGBTQ Resource Center,” and emphasized that it is proud to celebrate the “LGBTQIA+ community” throughout “OUTober,” which the Church commemorates as the month of the Most Holy Rosary.

Georgetown University did not respond to LifeSite’s request for comment by publication time.

Some of Georgetown’s upcoming “OUTober” celebrations include a Catholic “Mass of Belonging,” a Jewish “Pride Shabbat,” “Queer Space Pumpkin Decorating,” and a student production of the 1970s pro-LGBT Rocky Horror Picture Show, which the Catholic Legion of Decency condemned. Some “OUTober” events celebrated earlier this month included a Protestant “OUTober Sunday night worship,” and “National Coming Out Day” was celebrated by the LGBTQ Resource Center.

“As the first Catholic, Jesuit higher education institution to establish an LGBTQ Resource Center (2008), Georgetown celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and draws upon our commitment to continuing to advance equity and inclusion. This month, the university community celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month, also known as ‘OUTober,'” the heterodox university wrote in its announcement.

“This month provides an opportunity to reflect on the histories of LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff within Georgetown and the contributions of our academic community to the broader work of promoting equity and inclusion,” the announcement continued.

Contrary to the Jesuit university’s embrace of LGBT ideology, the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered” and “contrary to the natural law,” and that the homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered.”

The Catechism is clear that homosexual activity can never be approved and repeats that “(h)omosexual persons are called to chastity.” Homosexual acts are mortal sins; therefore, anyone who commits these sins and does not repent through the sacrament of confession is in danger of hell.

Furthermore, the Church teaches that God creates every individual male or female at the moment of his or her conception and that sex is an immutable trait that “characterizes man and woman not only on the physical level but also on the psychological and spiritual, making its mark on each of their expressions."

The 1975 Vatican document Persona Humana warned against the tenets of the modern transgender movement, stating, “There can be no true promotion of man’s dignity unless the essential order of his nature is respected.”

Catholic teaching also condemns bodily mutilation and sterilization as “against the moral law” and denounces gender ideology.

Georgetown University has long contradicted the Church’s teaching on these key moral issues.

As previously reported by LifeSiteNews, the university’s LGBTQ Resource Center also publishes a web page directing students to “Resources for Transgender and Non-Binary Students,” including guidance on “changing your name” and “adding your pronouns” across campus, and so-called “Gender-Inclusive Housing and Restroom Access.”

This housing program provides accommodations for students who identify as “transgender,” “non-binary,” or “gender-nonconforming,” or other students who have opted into “Gender-Inclusive Housing.”

The website also directs students to the names of local medical providers that offer so-called “gender-affirming care,” including potentially chemical and surgical interventions. It also lists organizations that offer free “chest binders” and directions to access a “Queer Support Space” and a “Trans and Non-binary Support Space.”

The nominally Catholic university also lists the non-discrimination regulations of Washington, D.C., including the “right” of students to be called by their “preferred name” and “gender-related pronoun,” and the “right” to “equally access student housing corresponding to your gender identity or expression.”

Georgetown also offers LGBT-themed courses, including “Performing LGBTQ+ History,” which informs students that they will research and “perform in short theater works born verbatim from the oral histories and archival documents of real-world LGBTQ+ activists, change-makers, and allies.”

Students enrolled in the course were also made to watch an event featuring drag performer “LaWhore Vagistan.” According to a description of the event, “One highlight was a lip-sync rendition of Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone,’ layered with recordings from South Asian call centers – a piece that brought to light the nuanced experiences of South Asian workers navigating cultural assimilation.”

Georgetown’s new president, Eduardo Peñalver, has said he repudiates the Catholic Church’s teachings on homosexuality, and has appeared to criticize the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

“Georgetown was dangerous for Catholic families even before this,” Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, told LifeSiteNews after the university selected Peñalver as its next president last fall. “What can be expected from a Catholic university president who publicly rejects Catholic teaching on sexuality? This is part of the truth that is foundational to Catholic education.”

“Every Catholic educator should vigorously oppose what this man embraced 11 years ago, and while I hope he has since returned to Christ, I can’t imagine trusting him as a leader of Catholic education,” Reilly continued. “Jesus told Peter to feed His sheep, but Georgetown is leading lambs to the slaughter.”

How did the gay priest and altar boy debacle work out
Over 6,000 U.S. Catholic priests have been credibly accused, leading to more than $3 billion paid out in survivor settlements and multiple dioceses filing for bankruptcy

And I went to a Catholic university, fortunately long ago and far away.
Now the homos are OK there. Actually, I’ve had some nice gay friends, but they were not in the church business.

Georgetown University

The chain of authority is:

1. Rev. Arturo Sosa, S.J. — Superior General of the worldwide Jesuit order, based in Rome.
2. Rev. Robert A. Reiser, S.J. — Provincial of the USA East Province, overseeing Jesuits in that region.
3. Rev. William Campbell, S.J. — Rector of the Georgetown Jesuit Community, its local religious superior.

The senior cleric with regional authority over Georgetown’s Jesuits, it’s Robert Reiser; if you mean the worldwide head of the Jesuits, it’s Arturo Sosa.

Georgetown is DC’s woke, deep-state U.

Gays, intel and FBI all the time.

Gay Jesuits only have sex with other adult men. So that's, errr, not a problem
