Bishop Mark Beckman of Knoxville, Tennessee, banned the praying of the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel at the end of masses in his diocese.
In a statement to members of the Diocese of Knoxville published Friday, Beckman lamented that as he has traveled throughout his diocese, he “noticed that in some of our parishes additional prayers, including the Prayer to St. Michael, the ‘Prayer of St. Francis,’ a Prayer to the Holy Spirit, and others have been added regularly to the liturgy — recited together, sometimes before the entrance hymn, or immediately after the dismissal.”
“Having reflected on the importance of celebrating the liturgy in accordance with the mind of the Church, I do not think it appropriate to add additional prayers associated with the celebration of the Mass itself,” Beckman wrote.
“Therefore, I have asked our priests to catechize the people of God as we move away from additional prayers recited together immediately before, during, and immediately after Mass,” Beckman said.
Beckman instead encouraged pastors to find alternative ways to incorporate the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel “into the devotional lives of our families and communities beyond the celebration of the liturgy.”
Last year, Beckman limited the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) to one chapel at a retreat center once a month after previously announcing the suppression of all parish TLMs in the diocese.
Beckman declared at the time that the changes to the Roman liturgy after the Second Vatican Council as well as Pope Francis’ 2021 motu proprio Traditionis Custodes, which placed sweeping restrictions on the celebration of the TLM, were guided by the Holy Spirit
Some spirit may be guiding these synodal bishops; but it's certainly not holy.
Ping
Our parish says the St. Michael prayer at the end of the Mass without the urging of our new pastor. I’ll be surprised if anything a bishop says will stop us.
Nothing controversial in the St. Michael prayer
“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.”
Any Priest worth his salt would say it anyway!!!
Amen!
The good Bishop must be affected by Alz.
Didn’t someone tell us to “Pray without ceasing?”
When you’re over the target...
Bishop Mark Beckman, born 1962, educated in Belgium in 1988
Guess what theology he carries?
One alternative would be post-liturgical dance”, by which I kean as one exits the church proper, flipping the bird toward the direction of the bishops far off residence, like mecca?, while making natural physical contortions of various directions with such “bird”.
“Ve haff vays off making you say only ze prayers ve vant you to say. Der Uber-pope Furher demands your salute.”
Say our new Nazi bishops.
Oh geeze.
How about banning the questionably non liturgical Girl Scout campfire music an bring back sacred hymns
Tge time signature on that awful crap is credibly accused of being demonic
It at least drives the testosterone out of the chapel
Touche’. God, the Holy Ghost is not confused. Certain people may well find this out very soon.
I carry my St. Michael Rosary at all times. I have one over my gearshift in the vehicle I drive the most, and one over the light switch on the lamp by my reading chair, in addition I on to the one in my pocket.
He has saved me more times than I can count. He has been with me for many years.
The only time that satan himself appeared to me was during an exorcism. Michael also appeared. I turned to Michael and said “ There he is, you can get him.” Michael replied “It’s not time yet.”
That was over thirty years ago. I feel and think it is soon time.
He is our protector.
🙏
“I feel and think it is soon time.”
It could be thousands of years or next week. No one knows. Interesting story. Thanks.

That is very true. I had many visions after my Near Death Experience when I went to Heaven and was shown the future. My NDE was in 1988 and the visions were shortly thereafter. I thought they would unfold in the mid 1990’s when Clinton was president. But they didn’t. I didn’t publish anything or proclaim any dates. I just watched and waited.
Here is is, over 35 years later and the events I was shown are unfolding now.
The time distortion between here on earth and Heaven is very great. What appears to be tomorrow in Heaven can be many, many years on earth.
The most recent vision included a period of darkness on earth. It puzzled me, so I began to research it. Every day I prayed and asked the Holy spirit to guide me to understanding. Finally, after four days they explained it.
The explanation began with the Lord’s Prayer and the phrase “On earth as it is in Heaven.”
Then they explained that when I died and went to Heaven, I had to cross through that same layer of darkness between earth and Heaven. That darkness must come to earth before Heaven does.
I contacted Xavier Reyes-Ayral, a researcher for the Vatican that investigated several of the the Marian visions and prophesies. He wrote the book “Revelations: The Hidden Secret Messages and Prophecies of the Blessed Virgin Mary.”
As a result of his writings on the three days of darkness, I sent him an email describing my visions and he called me. He explained that the period of darkness was a part of most of the prophetic visions, including those of Padre Pio.
I don’t make predictions as the timeline distortion is great. However, I do know the signs of the times, and know that the visions I was shown in Heaven are happening now. In the interim, I just stay focused on growing closer to God through His Son Jesus.
