Y’all have lost your minds with these church praise breaks! When did shouting, praise dancing, and cutting a step become all the proof we needed that the Holy Spirit was moving? Put somebody in a church building, get the musicians going, and suddenly nobody is allowed to question anything. We need to have an honest conversation about praise breaks, church culture, and what people keep calling worship.

I’m not questioning whether God deserves praise. Of course He does! I’m questioning why Christians are expected to accept every church dance and every emotional moment as the power of God. Since when does asking “Where is that in the Bible?” mean somebody is judging or doesn’t have the Holy Ghost? True worship, biblical discernment, and spiritual maturity have to mean more than knowing when to shout when the music changes.

So let’s talk about it. Are these church praise breaks pointing people to Jesus Christ, or have we gotten comfortable calling entertainment a move of God? Praise and worship should never be above examination, and church traditions don’t get the final word over Scripture. Watch and tell me where you stand. I know David danced for joy in the Bible but I don't think it was like this.

Yes, I’ve seen entertainment passed off as praise. I’ve also seen mass speaking in tongues during worship in a crowd approaching a thousand.

Neither one are really new, but it seems to be a current trend.

The best Church I’ve attended taught spiritual warfare and the works of the spirit, spirit based worship and such in small groups, and required such training and approval of action in public on a case-by-case basis. When that Church grew over 200, they added assistant pastors and “deputized” others leaders, and kept up the personal touch.

And would it even matter if today's dancing for joy differed somewhat in style from David's?

there was a man chosen by God in the last century to lead many of His greatest moves, adding many souls to His Church through that ministry. he had some music men with him during these crusades. one was a man named Barrows.

But be fair. There is plenty of room for exuberant joy. And there is a lot of clowning out there that mocks Christ. Some of this was the latter, for sure.

A lot of what is purported to be exuberant praise is people who can’t get a gig trying too get a gig.

Thank you. Most if not all of this is clowning around and it makes Christians look nuts 🥜.

Our experience should be examined in light of Scripture, not Scripture in light of our experience. Nor should anyone be hunting Scripture to try to find ONE verse to excuse any kind of questionable behavior.

So David danced before the Lord. But nobody is still alive to tell us whether some of the nonsense happening in church is the same thing as what he did. I doubt much of what I’ve seen (especially in Pentecostal churches) in the name of *worship* is what David did.
