Leo XIV has named the homosexual activist Michael Saporito, 64, Bishop of Metuchen, New Jersey (September 15).
Monsignor Saporito, 64, is currently auxiliary bishop of Newark.
Institutional Connection to McCarrick
A native of Newark, Saporito entered the McCarrick seminary in 1987. In 1992, Archbishop Theodore McCarrick ordained Saporito to the priesthood.
In 1999, homosexual McCarrick elevated the young Rev Saporito as assistant director of vocations.
Founded Homosexual Ministry in Parish
During Saporito’s tenure as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Maplewood (2004–2011), the parish employed an openly homosexual man as its full-time director of music and liturgy. He said he disclosed the relationship before being hired.
Furthermore, as pastor of St. Joseph, Rev Saporito founded a group for homosexuals called "Open Arms Ministry." A 2011 report noted that the parish's embrace of homosexuals came under Saporito: “Above all, according to parishioners, Saporito - through words and deeds - emphasized embracing diversity.” One example is a periodic parish meeting for homosexual Catholics.
The homosexual ministry "Open Arms" has continued after Saporito left the parish in 2011 until today. The successor hosted Pride Eucharists and Rainbow Rosaries.
One of the Most Pro-Homosexual U.S. Bishops
Francis appointed Saporito as auxiliary bishop of Newark in 2020 what became a scandal in the Catholic media.
In April 2026, the homosex group NewWaysMinistry.org reported that Bishop Saporito participated in their closed homosex and transgender indoctrination meetings.
Saporito boasted about it: “I certainly felt enriched by the exchange of personal stories and information that was offered. I had many questions answered and still need time to learn more.”
New Ways Ministry said those two-day meetings, beginning in 2023, were intended to "educate" bishops on homosexual issues, and 17 bishops participated. Subjects included moral theology, gender-ideology, employment issues, school policies, gay priests/lesbian nuns.
Only few bishops, including Saporito, wanted to be disclosed as participants.
The Vatican Knows
The 2026 report was translated in multiple languages, even by official church channels such as KNA in Germany.
Given that personnel is policy, today's promotion can hardly be seen as anything but a papal endorsement of homosexual ideology.

I was a parish member of st Joseph church in maplewood up to 75. In those days this clown would have not shown up. My church has left me. I don’t care now one whit what that jackass in the Vatican says.
