It's astounding how a child understands complex things like Chord Theory and Harmony, if it's explained to them in understandable terms. I use the mixing of colors to show children how mixing two or three of them together makes a new sound: Red and Yellow together, for example, makes orange. More colors make a more interesting blend, like warm grays and mauves. (Careful, though, too many colors mixed together ends up like a muddy brown). Musical intervals are like that. The position of even one of the tones can make a chord "Happy" (Major), "Sad" (minor), "Scary" (diminished) or Climbing Upward (augmented). The additions of a 7th or a 9th interval are like adding another color, one that clashes a little bit, but makes the chord more "interesting". This is called "adding tension". Kids LOVE to add tension, as any young Mom can tell you.

It seems that these kids, no matter what their level of intellect, can understand these principles,

AS LONG AS I WRITE EVERYTHING OUT IN BLOCK LETTERS.

Yes...you read that correctly. They are no longer teaching Penmanship (now called "Cursive") in the Public Schools.

I have a real issue with this, and am quite vocal about it. When kids ask me why I think Cursive is so important (besides being quicker and easier for me to write down) is because Our Founding Documents are in Cursive, and are preserved in The National Archives. If somebody wants to sneak a line into the Constitution, or take something out, they can do it on the Internet, and most people wouldn't know the difference.

What if it said on the Internet that The Constitution said "These Enumerated Rights do NOT apply to little girls with Blue Eyes".

The little Blue-Eyed girl looked at me in horror.

"But it DOESN'T say that!"

"Of Course it doesn't," I replied. "We know that because we can read the Original Document."

By now, Moses had accepted that he would not be entering The Promised Land. He commands that the Law be carved in stone immediately upon arrival. He knew how people like to change things to suit the times, rather than change the times to conform to the Word of God. It has to be in a medium that can't be easily erased or "edited". Just as The Bill of Rights is too precious to be trusted to pixels, so is the Word of God.
