[Catholic Caucus] Communiqué of the General House (FSSPX): interview in Rome

The interview, held one-on-one according to the Cardinal’s wish, lasted an hour and a half and took place in an atmosphere that was both cordial and frank. It allowed Father Pagliarani to listen carefully to the Prefect, and to specify the scope of the announcement of February 2, as well as the meaning of the steps taken with the Holy See in recent months.

The Superior General was thus able to present orally the present situation of the Society of St. Pius X and its duty, in the year of the spiritual necessity in which souls find themselves, to ensure the continuation of the ministry of his bishops.

Above all, he wished to expose the spirit of charity in which the Society envisions these consecrations, as well as its sincere desire to serve souls and the Roman Church.

Finally, he renewed his desire that, in view of the very particular circumstances in which the Holy Church finds itself, the Society may continue to work in its present, exceptional and temporary situation for the good of the souls who address it.

For Cardinal Fernández presented a different approach to the issue. Relayed in an official statement quickly published by the Holy See, its proposal consists of “a path of dialogue specifically theological, according to a very precise methodology, [...] to highlight the minimum necessary for the full communion with the Catholic Church”, which would allow “to define a canonical status for the Fraternity”.

The purpose of these exchanges would be, in particular, to agree on “the different degrees of accession required by the various texts of the Vatican II Ecumenical Council and their interpretation.” The Cardinal said orally that if we could dialogue on the Council, we could not correct the texts.

As a precondition for this dialogue, it is required that the decision of the announced episcopal consecrations be suspended.

The Prefect of the Dicastery has explicitly asked the Superior General to present this proposal to the members of his Council, and to take the necessary time to evaluate it.

Father Pagliarani will answer in a few days. He will write directly to Cardinal Fernández, and also make known his answer to all the faithful.

The Superior General reiterated to Cardinal Fernández his wish to be able to meet the Holy Father personally. He is very peaceful and thanks for all the prayers offered. He continues to recommend this situation to the prayer of the faithful.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

The purpose of these exchanges would be, in particular, to agree on “the different degrees of accession required by the various texts of the Vatican II Ecumenical Council and their interpretation.” The Cardinal (Tucho) said orally that if we could dialogue on the Council, we could not correct the texts.

VC II is the untouchable golden calf of the conciliar church.

One wonders why the Vatican does not make these same demands prior to the illicit consecrations of bishops by the schismatic CCPA in Red China.

IIRC in the B16 era there was a Vatican-SSPX working group that tried to hammer out some kind framework that the 2 sides could mutually agree on (i.e, an “interpretation ” of Vat2 that the SSPX could live with. Nothing came of it, and I suspect the reason was that the Vat side included at least one very anti-trad priest. I can’t remember his name off the top of my head but I remember when Bergoglio dropped the TC hammer, that same priest was cheer-leading it. I remember thinking “*that* the guy who was charged with ironing out a compromise with SSPX??! No wonder it flopped “

I looked back... It was Augustine Di Noia,

Fromm 2013:
“Archbishop Di Noia urges SSPX to take new attitude in unity talks
https://www.ncronline.org/news/vatican/archbishop-di-noia-urges-sspx-take-new-attitude-unity-talks

And then in 2021, Di Noia was back, cheerleading TC and saying that Bergoglio “fearlessly hits the nail on the head”

Cf.
“Traditional Latin Mass ‘movement’ sows division, archbishop says”
https://www.ncronline.org/news/traditional-latin-mass-movement-sows-division-archbishop-says

With Di Noia’s anti-TLM bias revealed ex post facto, it’s no mystery why he couldn’t or wouldn’t come to any kind of agreement with the SSPX
