Micah Joseph Kim, the 5-year-old son of prominent Catholic speaker Paul Kim, passed away this week after a valiant battle against complications from a severe case of the flu.
Paul Kim, a devoted husband and father of six known for his engaging talks on faith and family at Catholic conferences, announced his son’s death in an emotional social media post yesterday.
“Micah Joseph is beginning the new year basking in the never-ending glory, love, and peace of God,” Kim wrote. “Micah has been very busy already, as I see the Lord using him and sending him on missions to bring millions of people closer to God.”
Micah was hospitalized December 22 after suffering severe internal bleeding and other complications from the flu. He underwent emergency chest surgery December 24, which stabilized his heart function, allowing it to beat independently with steady vital signs.
Doctors gradually reduced life support as Micah’s lungs showed gradual improvement on a ventilator.
However, an MRI later revealed severe brain damage, with physicians determining there was “no medical possibility” of recovery.
“I couldn’t be a prouder father,” Kim said. “This reality gives me great joy and hope in the midst of sorrow. Our hearts are broken; but we trust in the Lord. Please pray for my family and me as we learn how to live by faith and not by sight.”
During the ordeal, cardinals, bishops, priests and laypeople offered prayers, and a GoFundMe campaign helped with medical costs.
Kim noted that his social media accounts reached more than 50 million views as people worldwide prayed for Micah.
“Thank you for all the love, prayers, and compassion that a countless number of you have showed us,” Kim wrote. “May God truly bless you. Your prayers for Micah were answered, but in a different way than what we had all hoped for. God healed and welcomed him into eternal life. He is where we all want to be.”
Sympathies to the Kim family.
I have never heard of Paul Kim until now. If I may ask, how did you discover him and his influence? Is it a Podcast?
My Bay Area in S.F. does not have terrestrial radio talk shows anymore. I don’t wish to take a “Nestea Plunge” into the depths of internet, looking for new topic shows.
I’ve never heard of him either but I know if I post it someone here has.
Here is his website
Thanks.
