The text of the Commandments is found in two places in the Bible. In Exodus 20.1–17, God speaks these words after the people of Israel have consecrated themselves at Mount Sinai. They are inscribed on two tablets of the covenant, ‘written with the finger of God’, the first and most important part of the Law of God, and they are a gift of God to the people of Israel – and through them to the whole of humankind.

The last sentence ...."They (the 10 commandments) are a gift of God to the people of Israel-and through them to the whole of humankind"
Wow....it even calls the law a "GIFT OF GOD" because when the love of Christ gets in our heart...his law like David said...is a delight. Like Paul said, is "Holy just and good." Amen.
____The article mentions that there are two places in the Bible that the Ten Commandments are listed, and mentions Exodus 20 but not Deuteronomy 5.
And personally, I think it is important to include the entire text of the Commandments. The first, for example (Ex. 20:2-3), reads in full, “I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. / Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” The additional dimension of the mention of being brought out of Egypt signifies being brought out of sin.___
Do you know what is the only difference in the 2? The Sabbath! In the first version, the Sabbath commandments points to God as CREATOR. In the 2nd version the Sabbath commandments points to God as redeemer. By freeing the people of Israel from the slavery of Egypt, he redeems them.
Amazing! The Sabbath points to a creator God and the redeemer God. No wonder Jesus said he made the Sabbath for man. He is creator and redeemer.
Exodus 20:2-3 and Deuteronomy 5:6-7 read the same, I noticed.

I just loved how this church that has been around since the mid 16th century described and articulated the 10 commandments. God’s moral law a “gift”...and given to the people of Israel “and through them to the whole of Humankind.”
I don’t think I had ever heard the moral law of God so eloquently and beautifully stated. It’s sad today’s dispensationalists and evangelicals have talked themselves out of all 10 commandments. For whatever reason....they are Jewish, it’s old covenant, it’s Old Testament, it’s law, etc. etc.
Seems the Christians of the past had the Biblical understanding of the 10 commandments and knew to separate the the moral law from the ceremonial law. I sort of respect even the Catechism of today......they also uphold all 10 commandments. They just believe they could change the holy day of rest of which I would disagree.
But thank you and shall we take our next all please.....(that’s what Harold Camping used to say. He upheld the 10 commandments too but for him, the holy day of worship and rest was the first day of the week) Cool......
I want to clarify, they have talked themselves out of one of the commandments...so they kind of nullify the 10 as a whole.
But thank you now.
Harold Camping’s ministry didn’t end well. He went off the rails with his end times proclamations. He had some other theological errors as well, but that was (or rather those were) the most notable.

Yeah. He hated the Sabbath too. Kind of a character.

Well, what’s bizarre to me is how many here claim the 10 commandments are nullified because they are old covenant/Jewish/Law, etc. Modern day darby scofield secret rapture nonsense. OT is JEW and LAW, NT is Christian and Grace.
Churches of old, protestant churches and even the Catechism upheld and uphold all 10 commandments including the weekly holy day as the standard of Christian behavior. The law of which we are to live by as born again Christians. The Law that reveals our need for a Savior. Sin is defined as transgression of the law.
Jesus said he came to magnify this law and make it honorable. But because of the Sabbath, the evangelical of today is very confused and does their best to nullify the whole law because of one of the precepts.
This statement by the church of England is representative of how churches viewed the 10 commandments. Given to Israel as a gift of God and through Israel to the “whole of humankind” Amen to that.
Amazing! The Sabbath points to a creator God and the redeemer God. No wonder Jesus said he made the Sabbath for man. He is creator and redeemer.
.....
And that’s why Israel was commanded to have a holy convocation where no servile work was to be done, on the 15th Day of the 1st month well before His Passion Week ended on the 14th Day.
He laid in the tomb resting on that 15th day about 2,000 years ago.
And the tomb was empty the very next day, the 16th, the first day of the next week.
Without the Son, Israel misses that Sabbath, delays that Sabbath, postpones that Sabbath, whether they know they do, or not.
They don’t have the Son, the Creator or Redeemer.
That’s their excuse. It’s a good excuse.
What’s yours?
They get an opportunity in the 2nd month to keep the delayed Passover on the 14th of the 2nd month, and the same pattern will be followed.
The 14th, 6th Day
The 15th, Sabbath
The 16th, 1st Day (manna from heaven began on this day)
Again, they have the same excuse every month of His.
What’s your excuse?
Weird dude with weird ideas who can’t even find a blessing in this beautiful statement by the Church of England about the 10 commandments.
Such a beautiful statement. The 10 commandments given to Israel as a gift from God and through them to all of Humankind.
So eloquent and filled with promise.
Then there’s you.
Every forum has it’s weirdos I guess.
Kind of off the subject, but I notice so many “Catholic Caucus” here on this forum.
Before noon there can be 4 or more “Catholic Caucus.”
Is this a Catholic forum? I get accused of hi jacking this forum and I probably post about once every few days. And so many responses, mostly hate but that’s ok..it’s prophecy.
But I see so several Catholic Caucus here. I don’t complain or whine about them either. Just pointing out, these Catholics outnumber my original posts at least 20 to 1 over a few days. Nobody seems to mind. Just saying......
But thank you now.
Yes, you do. You're doing it now.
