and Hallowed Be Your Most Holy and Glorious Name!
You Are So Holy and Worthy of Praise and Worship,
We are Overwhelmed by Your Glory!
It is You Who Have Made The Earth and All it Contains,
from the tiniest of Creatures,
to the Greatest of the Mountains,
Forests and Deserts.
It is You Who Command the Motion of the Stars,
The Galaxies,
and the Great Singularities of Time and Space,

Let all that has been Concealed

The Dorchester High School for Girls had designated June 6th for their High School Graduation Ceremony. They were luckily able to get Boston's Famous Symphony Hall for the Graduation, since the Auditorium at the High School was inadequate. The Boston Pops, with Cabaret style seating and the detritus of Champagne and petit-fors would be all cleaned up in the wee hours of the morning, and the Hall would be ready for the Dignified Event by the Afternoon. During those "wee hours", however, Something happened halfway around the world that interrupted EVERYTHING. It was D-Day, the Allied Invasion of Europe and a Turning Point in World War 2.

The Floor of Symphony Hall wasn't cleared, the empty Champagne bottles, glasses, and half-eaten sandwiches still sat on the tables, and it was a mess. The entire Class of Irish and Jewish girls were moved intown to Historic Tremont Temple, a Baptist Church near Boston Common. Mom shared this story with me EVERY June 6th. During my Childhood, D-Day was as much a Red-Letter Day on the calendar as Christmas and Easter. Another Day that was ALWAYS mentioned was December 7th. That was Pearl Harbor Day. These two days were as much a part of my childhood as the Fourth of July.

When I was eleven, JFK was murdered. I was in the sixth grade and had an enormous crush on the young President. My family actually had members who worked for the Kennedys in Hyannis. For YEARS afterward, I would get depressed on November 22nd, because I counted my years from that date in 1963. Most people in my generation remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news.

In the very beginning of the Twenty-First Century, we had another Red-Letter Day. On a beautiful Tuesday Morning on September 11th, 2001, our Nation was attacked by Islamic Terrorists. Yes, I'll call it what it was, because a lot of people WON'T. It's only 24 years later, but kids don't seem to know what I'm talking about when I mention 9/11. That's strange, because it was SO Traumatic for our country, and people seem to have forgotten about it. However, I still measure years from that date, just like I did with November 22, 1963 many years ago.

Joshua was dealing with a generation that didn't witness the Red Sea Crossing. They did, however, witness the Crossing of the Jordan, yet they seemed to have forgotten even THAT.

People love Miracles, but then either forget them or rationalize them.

Joshua tells the people what happened forty years ago, and they still go astray.

I guess it's Human Nature!
