Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Glorious and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!
Melt our hearts, Oh LORD,
And Give us hearts of Compassion.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

If you would like to be on or off the Daily Ping List, please let me know.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
John 4:1-26

Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman

4 Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3 So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.

4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17 “I have no husband,” she replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

In every culture, there is a group of people who think they're better than everyone else. Conversely, in every culture there are people who are thought of, and treated, as something less than honorable. In a lot of societies, it is the female half of humanity that's considered "inferior". In others, it can be the Religion or Ethnicity of a Person, and, finally, it could be that person's sinful behavior that marginalizes him or her.The Woman in Today's Story hits the Trifecta, as she is Female, a Samaritan, and an Adulteress.

In some cultures, it is the very people who light up our lives with the Arts and Entertain us that are scorned as "inferior", unless they have achieved Superstar Status. The stereotypical scene of the "Starving Artist" has been immortalized in Operas such as La Boheme, and it's modern clone "RENT". Anyway, here is a little rant I wrote about seven years ago about this kind of marginalization of the people who "entertain" us:

What is it about Musicians, that people think that they would just LOVE to work for them for free? It is ONE thing if music is one's Ministry, or if it is for a Charity or Worthy Cause, but when it is a business transaction (such as a Wedding or Private Party), the Musicians, like the Caterer, Decorator, Tent Company, or Clean-Up Crew are working People providing a service. Anyway, here is today's Story, as fresh as yesterday, when it occurred.

The contract was not paper, but was a series of Texts between the customer and the band. Originally, the customer tried to wrangle a free performance from my sister's band, with only a tip jar set out, for what was being called a "Farmers' Market". It was finally agreed that the 19 Vendors would have their entry fee reduced by $20.00, and then the $10 to $20 they saved would be given to the band, giving the band at least $190.00. This was lower than the band's usual fee, but, since "Farmers' Markets" are a worthy cause promoting local agriculture and community, the band agreed.

I rode to the event on my motorcycle, and at first could not find it. I asked several residents of the community, and nobody knew about it. When I finally found it, it was deep in a golf-course and had fewer than ten vendors. They were not "Farmers' Market" types at all, and there were no fruits or vegetables for sale...only frou-frou foodie things, herbal tea, vegan dog cookies, and cheeses that were $8.00 an ounce!

Up on the porch was the band, working very hard in the 80 degree sunshine, with "not-happy" looks on their faces.

I found out later why the band wore those grim expressions. The coordinator of the event told the band leader that if she wanted to get paid, she would have to personally go around and beg each vendor for her share, which they complied by putting a meager item from their table into her basket. She came home with a few dollars, some eggs from peaceful happy chickens and some Vegan dog biscuits that Penny turned her nose up at. She was so appalled, angry, humiliated, and upset, that we all went out for sushi together and vented our fury. Having been in the business myself for nearly 40 years, I told her that I had been defrauded of my services MANY times, and there is not much one can do about it. There is no "Musicians Union" to speak of, but I prefer to be free to set my own rates and working conditions anyway. With Freedom, however, comes vulnerabilities and responsibilities that make it more difficult, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

That little rant was in connection to an entirely different Scripture passage back then, but works with Today's Passage as well.

The scene takes place at the only Water Source for the Community, at High Noon, the hottest part of the day. Saints, Sinners, and Everyone in between had to go to the well, but most would go in the early morning before the day heats up. This woman went when she figured that nobody in their right mind would go to the well. That way she wouldn't have to face anybody, or be forced into conversation. Then WHAT happens? She's confronted by a Man, and a Jew on top of that, who TALKS to her!

To make matters even more incomprehensible, the Man asks HER for a drink of water. She does the most illogical thing then, as she engages in a Theological Debate with the Man. (Just what a Samaritan Adulteress needs in 99 degree sunshine).

It would appear from the Gospel of John that this person who hit the Trifecta of Marginalization becomes the first person to whom Jesus declares Himself The Messiah. Even Peter didn't figure this out till the confrontation at Caesaria Philippi, much later.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 81

To the leader: according to The Gittith. Of Asaph.

1 Sing aloud to God our strength;
shout for joy to the God of Jacob.
2 Raise a song, sound the tambourine,
the sweet lyre with the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon,
at the full moon, on our festal day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 He made it a decree in Joseph,
when he went out over* the land of Egypt.

I hear a voice I had not known:
6 ‘I relieved your* shoulder of the burden;
your* hands were freed from the basket.
7 In distress you called, and I rescued you;
I answered you in the secret place of thunder;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.
Selah
8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you;
O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9 There shall be no strange god among you;
you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.

11 ‘But my people did not listen to my voice;
Israel would not submit to me.
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts,
to follow their own counsels.
13 O that my people would listen to me,
that Israel would walk in my ways!
14 Then I would quickly subdue their enemies,
and turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,
and their doom would last for ever.
16 I would feed you* with the finest of the wheat,
and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.’
