[Adventist Caucus] God's Standard of Conduct: Just what is the Adventist attitude toward the law? (Ten Commandments)
Questions on Doctrine ^ | 1957 | LE Froom

The Seventh-day Adventist position on the Ten Commandments is set forth briefly in our statement of "Fundamental Beliefs." Section 6 reads:

6. That the will of God as it relates to moral conduct is comprehended in His law of ten commandments; that these are great moral, unchangeable precepts, binding upon all men, in every age. Ex. 20:1-17.

The ten commandments spoken by God from Mount Sinai are set apart from all the other commands of God recorded in the Bible by their very nature and the manner of their delivery. They themselves are the best evidence of their enduring character. Man's moral nature responds to them with assent, and it is impossible for an enlightened Christian to imagine a condition or circumstance—God still being God, and man still being a moral creature—where they would not be operative.

Correctly viewed, the moral law is much more than a legal code; it is a transcript of the character of God.

The Adventist position on the relation of the Ten Commandments to salvation is set forth in "Fundamental Beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists," section 8:

8. That the law of ten commandments points out sin, the penalty of which is death. The law cannot save the transgressor from his sin, nor impart power to keep him from sinning. In infinite love and mercy, God provides a way whereby this may be done. He furnishes a substitute, even Christ the Righteous One, to die in man's stead, making "him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 2 Cor. 5:21. That one is justified, not by obedience to the law, but by the grace that is in Christ Jesus. By accepting Christ, man is reconciled to God, justified by His blood for the sins of he past, and saved from the power of sin by His indwelling life. Thus the gospel becomes "the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth." Rom. 1:16. This experience is wrought by the divine agency of the Holy Spirit, who convinces of sin and leads to the Sin-Bearer, inducting the believer into the new Covenant relationship, where the law of God is written on his heart, and through the enabling power of the indwelling Christ, his life is brought into conformity to the divine precepts. The honor and merit of this wonderful transformation belong wholly to Christ. 1 John 2:1, 2; 3:4; Rom. 3:20; 5:8-10; 7:7; Eph. 2: 8-10; 3:17; Gal. 2:20; Heb. 8:8-12.

What beautiful Bible theology as it relates the “Moral Law” as summed up in the 10 commandments.

It’s a shame so many today confuse the moral law, which are the 10 commandments, and the Mosaic Law which came about AFTER sin.

The Sabbath, which is found in the 10 commandments, PREDATES sin. So it is not Mosaic. There was no jew, no Moses, no SIN when God established the seventh day Sabbath FOR MAN at creation. It existed in a perfect sinless world. There nothing Mosaic, nothing Jewish, Nothing shadowy about it.

It’s so much better when we sit down and actually study scripture and how our Savior exonerated the Sabbath by showing it is good...and acts of mercy and doing good do not violate the Sabbath. For he is good, he authored the Sabbath, and is it’s protector. And the reason it is found in the 10 commandments is because it identifies the sole arbiter of morality.

He does because he is the CREATOR and the Sabbath is a commemorative of his creation as we read in Genesis......and the creator makes the rules ....the moral rules. The creator determines what is good....and what is not good. And lying is not good, and stealing is not good, and killing is not good.....because the creator said so. In the heart of the law is his BADGE OF AUTHORITY.....just read the Sabbath Commandment. And it’s never changed. Not one jot or tittle.

Evangelicals say nope, God’s law only applies to the Jews. Once Evangelicals are saved in that microsecond grace decision, absolutely nothing can ever keep them out of heaven. No amount of willful sin can ever deny them the kingdom. Unfortunately for them they are in error, as grace will not save the continual willful, unrepentant sinner.

Hebrews 10:
26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

_____Evangelicals say nope, God’s law only applies to the Jews.____

It’s almost bizarre. Ask any evangelical....hey, do you believe in the 10 commandments?

Answers: yes, of course, what’s a matter with you. Are you crazy, they should be posted in schools, etc.

Then ask them, well what about the Sabbath ,,...it’s the longest of 10 commandments, it’s in the heart of the 10 commandments, it’s the pretty much the only one mentioned at creation, every person of God in scripture kept the Sabbath...etc.

And they say......oh, that’s Jewish, the law is Jewish, your under Mosaic law....blah blah blah.

But you just said you believed in the 10 commandments?

They changed their mind within a minute. Weird. Why not just go with what the Bible says throughout.....from Genesis to Revelation and enjoy the blessed holy seventh day? Weird.

Nice to see
The Waldensian Catechism (c. 1500)..."Living faith is to believe in God, that is, to love him and to keep his commandments."

They were slaughtered for that belief, btw...

On the Late Massacre in Piedmont

Avenge, O Lord, thy slaughter'd saints, whose bones
Lie scatter'd on the Alpine mountains cold,
Ev'n them who kept thy truth so pure of old,
When all our fathers worshipp'd stocks and stones;
Forget not: in thy book record their groans
Who were thy sheep and in their ancient fold
Slain by the bloody Piemontese that roll'd
Mother with infant down the rocks. Their moans
The vales redoubl'd to the hills, and they
To Heav'n. Their martyr'd blood and ashes sow
O'er all th' Italian fields where still doth sway
The triple tyrant; that from these may grow
A hundred-fold, who having learnt thy way
Early may fly the Babylonian woe.
BY JOHN MILTON

From: “Literature, an Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama” Fourth Ed., X. J. Kennedy 1987:

Despite hostility between Catholics and Protestants,
the Waldenses, members of a puritan sect, had been living in the Piemont, that region in northwest Italy bounded by the crests of the Alps.
In 1655, ignoring a promise to observe religious liberty, troops of the Roman Catholic ruler of the Piemont put to death several members of the sect.
4. When…stones: Englishmen had been Catholics, worshipping stone and wooden statues when the Waldensian sect was founded in the twelfth century. (So Milton charges. See also: Deu 4:28, Deu 28:36, Deu 28:64, Deu 28:64, Deu 29:17, 2Ki 19:18, Isa 37:19, Eze 20:32).
12. The Triple Tyrant: The Pope, to whom is attributed authority over Earth, Heaven, and Hell.
14. Babylonian woe: Destruction expected to befall the city of Babylon at the world’s end as punishment for its luxury and other wickedness (see Revelation 18:1-24). Protestants took Babylon to mean the Church of Rome.

It’s either all 10 commandments or none. Eternal life or eternal death. The choice has always been theirs. That’s what free choice is all about. God will allow them to choose their own fate.
