Yeah, if you’re interested in learning just what in same hill happed to the presbys, (as well as the other liberal protestant churches) a presby seminarian by the name of Gresham Meacham wrote a book on it back in the 1930’s. here’s google blurb about it:

Its worth noting that liberal christianity was the church’s response to atheism and darwinism.
They believed that there were no miracles. Everything could be explained.
What’s interesting today is that atheism and darwinism are steadily losing ground in academia today. It will be a multi decade change but its happening.
The cruel thing about what happened to the presbys is that the lay never knew what was being taught in the seminaries for at least another half a century. But in many cases nearly century later. That’s why now the liberal PCUSA is in very steep decline.
In the mean time the PCUSA pastors learned to do double speak.
They would say one thing and the congregation would think that the pastor’s meant another.
People didn’t really get it until the double speak morphed into some of the bizarre things the PCUSA finds acceptable now.
Nope - I left it at age 14 - right after the parish sent a letter to my Dad saying we were no longer members of the parish because he hadn’t raised his “envelope money” as much as his pay had went up - I guess they assumed he had x-amount of raises because they sent out new envelopes with a new amount printed on them and he kept putting the old amount in.
So, yes, I trash it with a younger person’s understanding - not to mention how my unit in Italy sponsored a Catholic-run orphanage. It was in such disrepair that we spent a LOT on materials to scrape and then tar the stone roof to stop the leaks, put windows in open holes in the walls and plumb the bathrooms so they worked again - and the Church only supplied an old priest and 2 nuns and zero cash - if donations ever dropped to a certain point the orphanage would have closed.
The kids loved seeing us come - they would come running out and holler “I pazzi Americani” (the crazy Americans). We’d play soccer with them for a half hour or so and then spend hours working on their “home”. The priest got mad at us because we refused to work on the Sacristy before we had the kids’ living quarters fixed.
That, and the fact that I never got the message from 14 years with the Church, is why I trash it publicly. And that was before we started hearing about pedophile “priests”.
