What is the Third Commandment?

The Third Commandment is: Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.

Which is the Sabbath day?

Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 336), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.

Why did the Catholic Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?

The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday, because Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday, and the Holy Ghost descended upon the Apostles on a Sunday.

By what authority did the Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?

The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday by the plenitude of that divine power which Jesus Christ bestowed upon her.

What does the Third Commandment command?

The Third Commandment commands us to sanctify Sunday as the Lord's Day.

_____By what authority did the Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?

The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday by the plenitude of that divine power which Jesus Christ bestowed upon her.____

It is important to note that historically, the Papacy has claimed she alone by the authority vested in her, changed the holy seventh day commandment. However, as Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi writes in his book “Sabbath under crossfire”.......she appears to be changing this position. A position she has held for centuries.

Now, she is shifting to a Bible based claim for the change. Using first day texts that even Romes Challenge brutally mocked in the late 1800s as being support for the change. That was her position before.

It is interesting to watch. She will do whatever she needs to do.

When we read Romes Challenge written over 100 years ago....she mocks the idea that the Bible changed the sabbath commandment. And she does it in a brutal way to Protestants who keep Sunday.

These words appear in this Catechism at the beginning. It received the Pope’s “apostolic blessing” from the Vatican. The Pope was at the time Pope Pius X.

Quote:

Vatican, January 25th, 1910 Dear Reverend Father: His Holiness, in bestowing His Apostolic Blessing upon you and your labors, desires me to convey to you the expression of His appreciation of your zealous efforts for the salvation of souls and for the spread of the knowledge of the True Faith. Wishing you every blessing, I am Dear Reverend Father, Yours faithfully in Christ, Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta

Just a suggestion. Watching what is happening globally as she gains influence and power, as the world once again marvels at her.....you may want to brush up on prophecy. And who she really is and what her agenda is. Global dominance. And it will look so authentically Christian, the masses are going to fall for it, hook, line, and sinker.

The Bible warns us about her. Her wound has healed.

Just a suggestion. Thank you.

Which is the Sabbath day?
........

Dear Rome, the Sabbath Day is The Day Israel left Egypt, according to scripture.
The 15th Day of His 1st month.

That exact day, about 2,000 years ago, Christ rested on it after finishing His Work the Day before, called Passover, the 14th Day,

God has 15th Days on His calendar every month and each one is exactly the same.

The Sabbath.

He changes not.

Your calendar isn’t going to make the Kingdom to Come cut.
Neither will your days or your weeks.

Sincerely,
A protester of Rome.

Hate. Hate. Hate. 9n the sabbath, whichever day you observe it.

You guys sound like the vipers of which Jesus was disgusted to see.

How about love on both Sunday and Saturday. Twice a week. Or try once a wek for that matter?

I’m a protester of Rome, not a protester of love..

Just not a fan of what the Bible calls Beasts and Antichrists.

Back for more abuse? You simply are unable to stop with the anti-Catholicism.

As you remember from your last thread, you got crushed because you could not back up your claims. Here's a reminder:

Which Pope changed the Sabbath? Where is the historical record of this?

What a silly debate by a bunch of hateful anti-Catholic bigots.
The Sabbath is Sunday because that’s when I and just about everybody else goes to church.
End of the debate.

For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual[j] immorality. -- Acts 15:28-29, NKJV

"No greater burden than these necessary things." Why is Sabbath observance not on this list? Gentile converts would not have known to observe the Sabbath unless they were told to do so. They were not told to do so. Why?

Thank you for at lest an attempt at a reply. In the material you posted, however, I find two conflicting statements that cannot be resolved.

First, we have the reign of Pope Sylvester I as being from AD 314 to AD 335. So far so good.

However, we have the following quote by Ellen G. White (supposedly received by her "in a vision"):

"The 1260 years of papal supremacy began with the establishment of the papacy in A. D. 538, and would therefore terminate on 1798." (Great Controversy, p266, 1888 edition.)

If the Papacy wasn't established until AD 538, how could Sylvester be Pope in the 300's AD? If he wasn't a Pope in the accepted definition of that term, but maybe just the bishop of Rome, he had no authority to change rules affecting the entire Church. It's just nonsense.

From Sabbath to Sunday

You should probably brush up on your history so you don’t embarrass yourself as much.

Justinian Code, which was completed in 534, enacted orthodox Christianity into law, placed the pope as the formal head of Christendom, ordered all Christian groups to submit to [his] authority,” and gave him civil power of life and death over heretics.

This code, however, did not become legally promulgated and enacted on the ground until the siege of Rome was lifted in 538. Justinian’s general, Belisarius, had entered Rome unopposed at the end of 536, but shortly thereafter the Ostrogoths came and laid siege to Rome. After about a year the siege was broken, and Belisarius had control of Rome and its environs.5 It was then that the provisions of the code elevating the Papacy could actually be implemented by Belisarius beyond the borders of Rome itself. The Gothic Wars continued, with the Ostrogoths being finally driven out in 553.6

But these later battles and sieges did not nullify the papal-centered legal system that had been put into place in 538. Even when Rome fell again to the Goths, they did not control the Papacy, as at that time it was operating outside Rome. “After 538,” Adventist scholar Jean Zukowski observed, “the papacy never came back under the control of the Ostrogothic kings.”7 The papal system, placed at the head of Christendom and given the power of life and death over heretics by the Justinian Code, endured in the West for more than 1,000 years, being given a great boost in the legal revolutions of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, forming the legal scaffolding of many modern states.8 That is, until the secular revolutions of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, where the code and its religious character were explicitly rejected.

You should probably study history better......And just as prophecy predicted in Daniel 7:25, in Revelation with the 42 months and the 1260 days and times, time and half a time.....

It all added up to exactly 1260 of your awful terror that your church reigned down on the world. That’s why it’s called the dark ages and she murdered and tortured up to 100 million. Then in 1798, the French put the pope in jail and he died in exile. A fatal wound it seemed.....and now? The wound has healed and the world is marveling after the beast.

And just say the word Seventh day Sabbath in front of a Jesuit .....and he wants to silence you. And many here want it silenced. But God wins in the end......those who uphold his law and who do not harm a single soul.....will be vindicated.

The Seventh day Sabbanth and those who honor it will be more and more viewed with contempt and hate.....and that’s prophecy too. You win here.....we win in the end.

Paul kept the Sabbath. The Gentile churches he raised were Sabbath-keeping churches. Every apostle on record kept the Sabbath. It is your church that changed the Sabbath to Sunday.
