Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Genesis 2:4-7

4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

7 Then the Lord God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Oh LORD, Our God!
Sanctified and Holy is Your Most Hallowed Name.
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,

My Heart is Overwhelmed With Your Glory,

It's been raining off and on for a couple of days, making a motorcycle ride unpredictable. I'm quite capable of riding in the rain, but it's not FUN. And, if it's not fun, why do it if I don't have to? Another thing that the rain is curtailing is my painting project. The gloom is penetrating the house, and, it seems that no amount of electric lamps gives me enough light to paint properly. I did, however, remove everything over the counter-tops, Spackle the holes, scrub the walls (while standing on the counter), and apply the first coat of KILZ. Even though this is the best prep for smoke damage, the first coat doesn't seem to be enough. Maybe it's just the lighting. Grrrrr.

After working till 8:00PM, I drove home in the rain to walk the dog. In the time it took to unload my gear and get Tippy, the rain had changed to a delicate, fine , mist that blanketed the street, bathing the streetlights in a fuzzy glow. The air was so fresh, as the days of rain had cleansed it, and it was heavily scented with dogwood, lilac, and apple blossoms. The mist, unlike an oppressive fog, was healing and invigorating. I slept really well last night.

Although I'm using the NIV for this particular series, I'd like to refer back to the KJV for this Verse:

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. (Genesis 2:5-6 KJV)

As you can see, The King James says "mist" where the NIV says "streams". Perhaps the translators assumed that, while streams can come out of the ground, mists do not. So, they used the word "streams" instead.

That bothered me a bit, so I went back to the original Hebrew. The word used here is אֵד (ade) Strong's #108.

It would seem like "mist" is a much better word choice than "streams". But that's just my humble opinion.

I did, however, get a nice demonstration of what the Garden of Eden would have been like as I walked Tippy last night.

Of course, in the garden of Eden, Tippy wouldn't have needed a LEASH.
